Eh? Tim knows she’s not a rat, he figured that out the second her saw her. He just told his parents that he dealt with the ‘rat problem’ to keep them from being suspicious.
Just re-read it and realise what was meant.
Is he used to this? That’s not a common reaction for an 8 year old.
