Brandon, I would like to ask you:
Do you mind if I translate this into Russian? However, I will not translate it as a comic, but as a light novel (No images). I am not asking for being your “official” translator. I just want to put your story to text and share it to russian community.
If you don’t like this idea, then feel free to reject it! I respect the opinion of the author when it comes to their work.

Wouldn’t that be far more alteration than a translation? Removing his images and replacing them with your own narration is extremely intrusive. One might even call it selfish.
Most importantly, if you really respect the wishes of the author, you should ask for affirmative permission instead of saying that you’ll do it unless he forbids it.

I never said “I will do it unless he rejects it”! I know that my translation without images can be far from original. That is why I ask for his permission to use the story as the “base” for my translation. By the way, I am still patiently waiting for his response and won’t do any actions till I get the “ok” sign from him.
I’m not really comfortable letting strangers work with my story, unless it’s a completely separate thing like fanfiction, or fan art.

That is, put translated speech bubbles into otherwise transparent PNG pictures, then place them on top of the original images using custom CSS (or injected style tweak, via user-side scripts)?

We have seen in the flash foreward that they are together. So unless the comic catches up to those then they break up then we know they don’t. And at the rate this comic comes out I think it’s a safe bet the heat death of the universe will come before we catch up to the flash foreward.
