Okay, so Mom seems to know Shadow is a monster name and is therefore familiar with monsters in general. Possibly familiar with Shadow herself? Possibly a monster herself in disguise? In strip #42 Tim’s father is told to call Ruth by her real name, “Ruthless.” Sounds like a likely monster name to me. As seen earlier in the series, Lady Blackheart’s real name is not Lady Blackheart, perhaps it is Ruthless. Perhaps Tim’s mother is the missing mother, Lady Blackheart/Ruthless. Ruth has a strange way of knowing things. If she realizes that Shadow and Tim are getting sweet on each other–and if I have been right so far–then she has good reasons to be protective of both Tim and Shadow and wish them well in their budding romance. Anyway, the expression Ruth Newton’s face in the last panel seems to say, “Oh, that takes me back!”
On the other hand, I could be wrong. What do I know?
so Brandon, you never said otherwise so is it safe to assume there is a fair chance of an update this sunday? I doubt there will be, but you never said you won’t so I’m just curious
If the book gave her a spell to disguise herself – it won’t be that obvious. However, she may not know enough about American culture to fit in. There’s also the possibility that alcohol and / or other intoxicating substances may give people a way to see through her image.
I counted:
When Tim trapped her (under Shadow’s direction)
When she threatened Tim that evening
When she visited Tim to get the same thing that propelled Shadow to the top
Given how long they’ve been seeing each other, I would be surprised if Shadow and Tim had spent less than 100 nights chatting.
Okay, she is totally Lady Blackheart. The mother wears nothing but yellow and has blonde hair, just like Lady Blackheart. Plus the fact she “doesn’t go by that name anymore” since her new name is Ruth. Plus the fact that the shadowy figure Lady Blackheart fell in love with resembles Tim’s dad. It’s totally her.
If Ruth asks Tim about Shadow, there is that picture Tim put in the drawer. If Shadow ever encounters Ruth, I wonder how Ruth’s voice compares to Lady Blackheart’s voice (which Shadow has heard on two occasions). Such a meeting could be quite revelatory!
No I’m not from the United States I’m from Canada I live in the Sask. city of Moose Jaw.
Archie Andrews gets so much detention I’m surprised he hasn’t been expelled from Riverdale High.
Archie Andrews has been in Riverdale High so long it’s a wonder they don’t stick a diploma in his belly button just to get rid of him…
i think his mom is not a real human, just calling it
Shadowy yellow woman and his mother both have a freckle on their left cheek, just sayin’. 😉
@Heptameron, possibly human with extra human experiences like, possibly his father, G’mother or G’father, Aunt or Uncle?

Christmas is the Christian new year as well as the birth of Christ.
but God is not real, God has never existed in the first place.
Come on guys, not here. Plenty of places on the net rehashing this one.
Pull up a mug of hot choc and cheer and enjoy the comic.
Merry Christmas Brandon! Ya a day early, I figure you wont be checking this on the day itself.
Thanks for 109 gifts and counting!

There’ll be no actual comic update this week, no.
I suspected as much. Merry Christmas anyway.
Merry Christmas!
merry Christmas
You too! Merry Christmas!
I’m curious to see what happens to Tim when he’s a teenager in high school.
Shadow at a Prom? That would go well…..

Happy Christmas everyone!
She is learning about Youth/School/etc from Horror Movies. Nothing can go wrong from that. She would be the life of the party.
How many times has Shadow and Midnight visited Tim in the human world?
Shadow a whole bunch, Midnight like, maybe 3 times. Shadow and Midnight are not attached at the hip, Midnight doesn’t really want much to do with Tim.

You know what I like best about this comic? You can’t hate it.
