116 – The Long Way
FEBRUARY 26 UPDATE: Check out my FACEBOOK FAN PAGEย for the latest status updates on the comic!
And just to save you some time if you don’t want to check out that link, I’m postponing this week’s page to next week so I have more time to work on it and get it right.
—————————-
Hopefully she won’t be too late!
So, where do those stairs lead? Long way around??
Something like that. ๐
Oh boy, can’t wait for the next update. I want to see the look on his face when he see’s Shadow in her costume.
We haven’t even seen her costume yet. Considering how Lady Blackheart dresses, it will probably be very interesting to see.
Keep in mind, she’s still 12.
If Lady Blackheart is who we think she is, I doubt that she’ll be VERY outrageous; just outrageous enough
I dont think she is going as Jem in those leggings.
My thought exactly.
We’ll you’ll get to see that soon enough!
Looks like Shadows going to go through the front door. Tim’s parents are going to be surprised that he made a friend. At least his dad will be surprised. Wink
Midnight, stop being so clingy. Go meet a guy friend.
I think that if Midnight knew that Halloween offered wide-open possibilities for scaring humans, she’d be quite interested in going with Shadow….
I think Middy is just afraid to lose her best friend to a human worm. Even more, maybe Middy is a lesbian and she secretly fell in love with Shadow (although Shadow doesn’t suspect it)?
>.> I suppose it’s possible but I’m more inclinded to think she and midnight have been togather like sisters since toddlers. You don’t want your sister to get hurt over some silly boy. Once there routines start changin they of course she’s going to speak out cuase her sis is taking risks without her support.
So how do these doors work exactly? Is there a door for EVERY bed in the world? If so, that must be a big friggin’ hallway.
Interdimensional translocation, of course.
Remember? “Bigger on the INSIDE”
The long way around…Shadow’s not gonna come up under Tim’s parents’ bed, is she?
I think she is
So either she is coming out from another bed in the house, or another bed in the neighborhood. Surely Blackheart wouldnt have sent her up under Ruths bed?
Also, is she bringing the book with her? What IS that girl up to?
I will guess she is headed for a bed in an unoccupied house, near to Tim’s house. As for the book, it might be as simple as one of those she borrowed from Tim, and is returning it. And of course it might also be entirely different, say one that has a transformation spell in it, heh!
reminds me of the old movie “little monsters”, from back in 1989
NO. BAD PERSON. *slaps wrist*
Oohh… Is this where the inspiration came from, Brandon?
No, I’m just tired of that comparison. Got it a LOT way back in chapter 1.
Also, that movie isn’t that great.
I rather liked it, but that might just be the nostalgia talking.
Anything involving interacting with monsters under the bed is going to draw that comparison, story here is totally different. Um, unless someone from the Brotherhood has ambitions of… naw, couldnt be ๐
WHAP!, ouch….
This won’t end in tragedy will it?
I wouldn’t say, even if I knew.
But please Brandon, don’t make this comics such tearjerker as your novel. When you jumped to 18-years Tim in the novel, things quickly got dark and hopeless. I cried a lot and have stopped reading it. If you do the same with this comics, then I’ll have to stop reading it too, I just don’t have heart for such drama. Either make a dramatic situation seem hopeless, but not too dark (in other words heroes don’t have any idea how to prevent some bad consequences, but said consequences aren’t TOO bad) or dark but with hope (so there are very bad events ahead, but there is a way to prevent/reduce them that have a chance to work out. Or at the least there is a hope to find such way).
I bet that thing that looks like a sock is for the tail
Nah, that’s one of the leggings that she borrowed from Mid to be part of her costume, covering her legs.
Yep! The rest is in the bag, along with a certain book.
Welp the only book that we know she has for certain is the one lady black-heart gave her so i wonder what it is going to do for her
I am willing to bet that Lady Blackheart/Ruth is going to show Shadow how to use the book to transform into a human. I wont be too disappointed if I am wrong, but seeing shadow in human form would be very interesting.
If the book is for a transformation spell, I would think Lady Blackheart has already, earlier in the day, shown Shadow how to cast that spell.
In a way, it is a good thing that Shadow has been introduced to television and the wide variety of stuff that can be shown on TV. This means when wandering the neighborhood toward Tim’s house, she will be aware of automobiles, for example.
One other aspect of TV is, human children are widely exposed to (fictional) interactions with non-human characters. This has pre-disposed Tim to not freak-out when he originally encountered Shadow. Shadow’s background, however, doesn’t contain anything like that, so that explains her perplexity in #33 ( /?comic=33-its-funny <–append that to the website name) regarding Tim interacting with her as if it was normal. These days, for humans, a "monster" isn't really defined by appearance; it is defined by *actions*. Which is why, for example, Joseph Stalin qualified as a monster, even though he was otherwise quite human in appearance.
Well, at least Midnight is a bit more accepting of him…at the very least, she isn’t calling him ‘dog face’ anymore. ๐
I’m betting Shadow is going to enter via either another house or perhaps a portal outside and will then just walk up to Tim’s house and pretend to be a friend from school or something. If they’re going to go trick or treating together it would raise suspicion as to how she got in if she just came in through Tim’s bed.
My hope is she’s just going to show up at the front door and meet his parents!! “Honey, a friend from school is here to go trick or treating with you!”
Middy may be a bit of a smartass but she definitely worries about her friends and their safety.
She’d make a great Mother for the Bed Bugs, I think.
When Shadow “makes it up” to Midnight for skipping breakfast, I think she will be sharing her candy/loot from trick-or-treating.
I wonder what will happen next.
…
Meet Tim’s Parents Time!!!

The top two panels contain a slight (not hugely important) inconsistency, in that first he’s wearing the special glove, and then he isn’t. Low importance derives from not knowing how much time passes between the two panels (remove glove fidget put glove on fidget remove glove fidget …).
Look at what his hand is doing in the second panel. His hand is right near his face. If I had something with thin claws sticking out on my hand and I had to touch around my eyes I’d take it off.
