Tim?
Hello?
Beautiful girl who wants to spend time with you?
The book can WAIT
And what in Allspark’s name does the HAMMOCK have to do with ANYTHING???
how the hell did I not get that right away? it’s Little Monsters rules. and I love that movie.
somehow I thought it meant she magic’d the hammock into clothing, Cinderella style, and we were gonna get a particularly interesting scene at midnight.
It does make one wonder, though.. what exactly qualifies as a bed? can they appear under a square of cardboard if a bum sleeps on it, but not if that same piece of cardboard is only used for breakdancing?
So far, Shadows sugar intake has been limited to what Tim has brought her. In that outfit she is going to bring in quite the haul. Assuming the town manages to survive these two on a sugar high, I’m wondering how she is going to explain the stomach ache to Moonie tomorrow.
Also wondering now that Shadow has met Ruth, when tims gonna get to meet Moonie OR Sunnie. And how loud he is going to squeak 🙂
Shadow told Midnight in #118 that although she was skipping breakfast with Midnight, she would “make it up” to her. Which implies an intent to share some of that candy haul. Therefore that would reduce Shadow’s own sugar intake, and the consequences thereof.
Ye Gods… unleashing both of them on the sisterhood on sugar highs might just be enough for them to seal themselves off from the horrors of the human world forever
Maybe, maybe not; only the author knows for sure. What I’d like to point out is that Tim’s fear has now been replaced with curiosity. Also, any doubt he might have had before about the girl at the door actually being Shadow has been “dispelled” –and some of his prior fear might simply have been due to not knowing that for certain. Any more fear-points that Shadow scores tonight will probably have to come from other humans than Tim.
I wasn’t questioning any of that – just that they’re running and she’s holding the bag in an insecure way. If she doesn’t pick up the other handle, things are probably going to fall out.
Someone else may pick it up before them? You’ll be surprised what one could miss when one’s focus is not on it (eg chatting with each other). There’s also the option that a pickpocket could get their hands on it.
I’ve got a dollar that says our duo runs into some other kids from Tim’s school. And they’ll want to know who Shadow is. Maybe even a jealous human girl in the mix!
At that age, kids of either gender are focused on trivial matters. So it is unlikely that he has any secret admirers. He isn’t rich, he isn’t athletic. I have no idea re looks.
I love his no real surprise at the sudden face change. Shadow being a girl scares him half to death, watching magic work does nothing, not even a real surprised look.
The nights still young and so are they. Hopefully they have fun.
Of course she knows he’s going to want to to look at the magic book… Though now I wonder how deep the rabbit hole goes. Bed monsters and magic are definitly real, but what else is? Werewolves? Vampires? Leprechauns?!? Are there gnome turf wars? what about unicorns?
We readers can be fairly sure Tim will eventually get to study the book. His 18-year-old self has an Aegis, after all, and the author has clearly stated (comment to one of the other comics) that humans are not allowed in Nox –so if Tim has ever been there, he will have had to go in disguise, much like Shadow is currently visiting the human world in disguise.
Perhaps Shadow wants to be sure Tim has conquered his fear before lending him the book. I could imagine fear interfering a lot with intended magical workings….
He has something that looks like an aegis. But even if it is authentic and not just a replica, doesnt necessarily mean he can use it. In that scene, Shadow did say she would be back to pick him up, implying he cant go without her either by some kind of rule, or simply that he cant make the portals work without her. Same for the book, even if he does manage to get his hands on it, humans probably wont be able to cast noxious magic.
“pick him up” can be interpreted in different ways. Perhaps she simply needs to make sure the coast is clear, before he passes through the portal under his bed. Perhaps the transformation spell can only be *cast* in Nox (while on Earth the spell can simply be maintained). We’ve seen (in #46) that the route between a Nox hall doorway and a bed-portal is long enough for, say, a change of appearance to be hidden, and it is doubtful that Shadow changed her appearance after reaching Tim’s back yard –she might have been seen in that open space!– even though we know she hadn’t done it when she spoke with Midnight on her way to the hammock portal.
Another nice page! Enjoying the story. Keep it up.
Thanks!
Tim?

Hammock is technically a bed, and the only way into the human world is via underneath a bed.

DargUnity explained “Hammock is technically a bed, and the only way into the human world is via underneath a bed.”
That,of course, raises the question, “Is that wriggling under my sleeping bag another nocturanal Noxian cutie visiting me? O goody !”
Remember Tim is 12 years old and afraid of girls. The book is a much safer thing to be interested in, for him at this stage in his life.
? hammock ?? ? how did that work.??
an panel 2… LOL .. please wait while page loads…boop… 🙂
:… the hammock in your back yard”??
Now how does the hammock fit in?
She did tell Middy she was taking the long way around. Does the hammock count as a bed to come out from under?
Of course!
It’s probably the doorway she used to get there.
Makes sense if they’re bed based. A hammock is, after all, a kind of bed.

Somebody is going to experience the joys of a sugar crash.
That ought to be interesting.
Shadow told Midnight in #118 that although she was skipping breakfast with Midnight, she would “make it up” to her. Which implies an intent to share some of that candy haul. Therefore that would reduce Shadow’s own sugar intake, and the consequences thereof.

If she’s holding it with one strap like that, things will probably fall out.
I suspect a certain magic book will be missing by the end of the night.
Well, if it does fall out, I think it is too heavy for that to happen without the event getting noticed.
Someone else may pick it up before them? You’ll be surprised what one could miss when one’s focus is not on it (eg chatting with each other). There’s also the option that a pickpocket could get their hands on it.
Hammock, huh, I wouldn’t have thought of that. It is a bed, technically, so I guess it makes sense. Would love to see how that works though.
Pretty smart, I was banking on a neighbor’s bed or something. Never would have guessed a hammock, but does Tim have a hammock in his backyard.
Yes. He sure does.
You never will! That’d ruin the joke. XD
Naw, dont ruin it, but show her falling out of the hammock.
Elevate the joke! The joke be praised!
I’ve got a dollar that says our duo runs into some other kids from Tim’s school. And they’ll want to know who Shadow is. Maybe even a jealous human girl in the mix!
Hmmm… could be we’ll run into some other people. Could be!
At that age, kids of either gender are focused on trivial matters. So it is unlikely that he has any secret admirers. He isn’t rich, he isn’t athletic. I have no idea re looks.
What are the chances, Midnight comes up spy on the couple, and gets scared off by all the people in costume? That would be funny.
Well the tradition of costumes WAS to scare away unnatural things, things not of this world, so…
DO IT! DO IT!
I love his no real surprise at the sudden face change. Shadow being a girl scares him half to death, watching magic work does nothing, not even a real surprised look.
Haha, well, he’s been friends with a monster girl who magically disappears under his bed for several weeks now, I doubt he’s surprised by much.
Tim and Shadow out on the town. I shall alert lawyers and EMTs.
Hopefully, it won’t be as bad as the incident with the carnivorous llamas. 😉
One would hope! Never forget what happened that day!
Everyone was fortunate that the carnivorous sheep were nearby as well. Would have been much worse without them.
They actually do have carnivorous sheep in “Modest Medusa”.
This comic is amazing! I love all the characters! You’re such an amazing artist Brandon good work!
Thank you very much!
The nights still young and so are they. Hopefully they have fun.

…and now i want to see Shadow riding a unicorn…

“That face…that face…that dangerous face…”
Welcome back to a regular schedule; good luck wished, but don’t worry if you miss again. Most of us will still be here.
Heh The book revealed it was an Encyclopedia OF MAGICS!
There’s a word for that, much shorter than the whole phrase/description: grimoire.
