Well, he’s never heard her make such a sound, or really act in such a manner, so it’s probably a little jarring for him to see just how she really operates when she is ‘ON’, and not just being her ‘usual’ cute self.
I think she’s always had “super strength”, or at least enough strength to manhandle Craig or probably a muscular adult male in his prime. I assume that that comes as part of being one of her kind. Its just that Shadow has never shown this side of herself before.
Gonna go with “adrenaline surge” myself–it’s the first time she’s felt that afraid for someone else in her life and all her brain’s inhibitors are turned to the “off” position.
All human beings are about FIVE times stronger than they are in day to day life. When something stressful enough happens the inhibitors in your brain turn off and give you a strength boost. The reason you don’t get that all the time is that the muscles damage themselves too much if use for more than a few minutes.
It’s what gives people the strength to life a car off of their child, but have trouble moving furniture later on.
There’s a story of a couple of guys that were mountain hiking when one of them slipped. He fell to a lower ridge and caused a minor rockslide. Out of the debris, he got caught underneath of a 900lbs (sorry I don’t know in kg) boulder. As the boulder was about to drag him off of the cliff, his brain said, “Fuck it!”. He proceeded to toss the 900lbs boulder like it was paper-light. His arm muscles then exploded immediately after. He did survive.
She could be using a simple magic spell for increased strength. While the transformation glamour was probably for her the most interesting spell in that grimoire, the book is too big for that to be the only interesting spell (for her) in it.
I pointed out in a comment to an earlier comic that when Tim tussled with Midnight, at that time all Midnight knew was she was going up against a human (could certainly smell Tim), and she had no reason to hold back her strength. Since she is a bit older than Shadow, she would be even stronger, and probably could have tossed Tim across the room –IF we are talking about ordinary accessible strength of Nox folk.
But since that didn’t happen, we should conclude that Nox folk are not ordinarily super-strong. Extra strength will need a source, like a magic spell –or desperation (typical cause of “hysterical strength” described in other comments here).
I don’t see that Shadow was desperate, in this current sequence of events. But we do know she has had significant time to study spells in that book.
Go, go ask Lord Mortis if it’s true that the Noxians are a race that uses their claws for hand-to-hand combat instead of having to resort to weapons.
Just try not to make lew jokes about his waifu and/or daughteru while making the question, or you’ll not get an explanation but a pointed object lesson.
That should fill Shadow’s fear quotient for the year…or the decade.
I’m pretty sure that’s not the only thing that will be filled…
Tim’s inner thought: “I have the strangest boner right now”
You ser are the best person ever just because you said that
EVERY man gets a strange boner at some point in his life–it’s just Tim’s time now… 😉
I’m wondering at Tim’s surprise. Is it just that he has never seen Shadow look that dangerous before? Is he wondering how she got there so quickly?
Enquiring minds want to know!!!
or maybe he’s realizing he likes seeing her from that angle?
You see, that was precisely my first thought, but then I saw that her cape covers up the best parts of the view :/
hypnotized by dat tail?
He knew she was there. They were out Trick or Treating together. It’s likely he didn’t know she could be THIS scary. LOL.

Hello? Bed M-O-N-S-T-E-R here!
I hope Tim moves out of the way before he gets p*ss or sh*t all over him from Craig.
Damn, this gona’ be good.
Shadow’s Aegis is gonna be overheated and it’ll show ERROR after this
So, does she have like super strength now, cause she never showed that ability before?

Just proves Shadow loves Tim 😉

Tim’s view angle shows him something his dreams are made of ! Plus,I agree with DAB !
she still cute doe
Craig will never live that down. Being afraid of a costumed girl at halloween. He is laughing stock for years to come.
I note (and appreciate) the faint aura that Shadow gives off in Panels 2 & 3 as she starts transfoming from human form to Nox.
Well drawn Brandon!
I’m getting Freddy Krueger vibes off of Shadow at the moment. I’m guessing she’s channeling the horror movies that she saw with Tim for inspiration.
That, right there, made my week!
Thanks Brandon.

There’s ALWAYS. A. BIGGER. MONSTER……..
