It might be interesting to find out that Marcy is Midnight wanting in on some of “Mojo Boy.” She overheard that kisses are just for your ‘special someone.’ Look at her smile in the lower left picture and tell me if the words “Hi dog face” ring a bell… http://www.comic-rocket.com/read/the-monster-under-the-bed/63
That and the whole “catch some balls” insult to Spencer, dog insult seem to be a theme…
Although I wouldn’t mind if Marcy was Midnight, it’s kinda odd that we’re getting all these “transformation” reveals one after another. Like try not to kill the joke type deal, or in this case overuse a plot device.
Lol I don’t see why people think that she’s midnight it makes no sense and she seems to be popular in the school so she isn’t new their. and if it was midnight she would be a new student. And midnight can’t transforms so it can’t be her.
Yeah, Shadow would not need to waste her time with such deceptions.. no.. this is far worse.. and young teenage girl with a {ahem} …active libido, perhaps… who has set her sights on Tim. I can’t fault her discerning tastes… but it is unusual ‘seemingly’ for a girl her age not to be hanging on the arm of some athletic, popular, school jock instead of the modest, brainy, quiet guy like Tim. Hmmm.. wait a minute… I may have to review that…cause .. well a similar thing happened to me in school.. I was just a sophomore, outgoing but not in sports, brainy but not on any debate teams or ES Classes, and a RPG gamer… and yet.. a Senior cheerleader ~ Shamelessly chased me…all that year. Most embarrassing time of my life in high school.. its not that she was not pretty.. but I was interested in someone else {who ultimately}.. I was too shy to approach. Sigh. Ok.. yeah… Tim has a complication here….!
Everyone is all caught up in whether or not Marcy is Shadow (she’s not btw) but nobody is just appreciating how good she looks. I mean seriously i love the purple and yellow clothing mix, its not a color combo that we have seen in the comic yet. I love her art in the first panal the most. I know we are supposed to dislike her to an extent but so har i love her.
Nope!
Suspicion of Marcy and her motives continues.
She is after all, a USER!
I am still not convinced that she’s not a conniving (well, duuuh! female, ulterior motives) minion of Craig the bully and determined to ruin Tim’s life.
How is she a user, exactly? All she’s done is ask for Tim to help her study and imply she might be game for more. It’s not like she’s copying his work, or getting him to DO her work for him. You’ll see.
Yes, that’s right, she asked Tim to “help” her study.
That means she isn’t prepared to do the skull-sweat (ie LEARN) herself and wants to piggy-back on his abilties, gaining Tim’s answers and/or skills without doing the necessary work.
As far as implying she might be up “for more”, we’ve all seen how that pans out, both from the movies and in real life.
As soon as she’s taken everything Tim has to offer, she’ll be off like a bottle of milk in the summer sun.
I can happily anticipate the lesson that Shadow’s going to deliver – maybe with the help of Midnight.
I do hope that you can illustrate Marcy’s tattered retreat from the field of battle.
I know we aren’t supposed to hate her but i do feel that from the readers perspective we are supposed to dislike the fact she is unwittingly coming in between Tim and Shadow.
Marcy has a resemblance to Shadow, I find. Hmmmmmm . . . the problem I have here is deciding who’s Betty and who’s Veronica? Poor Tim, imagine him trying to let Marcy down gently= “Look, I find you very attractive but I already have a girlfriend.” “All’s fair in love and war. Tim. Who is she?” “Her name’s Shadow.” “Shadow? That’s not somebody I know, does she go to a different school?” “Um . . . yes. Private school.” “So where do you guys hang out?” “My place.” “Can I see her?” “Um . . . it’s complicated.” “What’s so complicated? Either she’s your girlfriend or she isn’t. So when can I meet her?” “Um . . . look, it’s complicated.” “How so?” “I . . . can’t really talk about it.” “Why not?” “I can’t talk about that either.” “Okaaaay, so when do I meet her?” “Um . . . look, I don’t know if you can . . .” “Why not?” “I can’t talk about that.” “Tim . . . I really like the Who’s on First routine, but not in real life. I’m coming over tonight and we can . . . study.”
I still say that Marcy and Shadow are gonna end up close friends at the end of this chapter. I don’t quite see a “Betty and Veronica” setup, though whether Marcy’s current goal is humiliation or seduction of Tim is up in the air. I guess we’ll see when night falls. (We know he lands with Shadow, of course, but whether Marcy is a friend, a frienemy, or an enemy is still uncertain.)
I’m actually wondering a bit more about Marcy’s life prior to this. Who is she when she’s not in or cheering for the school? Is she secretly a geek like Tim? A product of a broken home and just looking for affection? Is she even from an affluent part of town or is she from the mean streets and can swing a mean left hook out of necessity?
As for Marcy and Shadow looking similar, it’s the clean simplicity of the artwork. Even if this was black-and-white, we’d be able to tell them apart with hairstyle and jewelry, I think.
(And yes, finals for chem class are – or at least were – a thing in my old HS. All classes had finals, even band and chorus believe it or not.)
I doubt that Marcy’s actually a geek.
If she were, she’d be studying herself, not taking study time setting a “honey-trap” for Tim. Unless she IS acting as a minion of Craig the bully.
I’d be interested to know your reasoning or evidence for Marcy and Shadow later becoming “close friends”. Are you suggesting a Sapphic relationship development?

She doesn’t have a way to transform if I remember shadow needed the book to do it
What a devious smile, she’s planning something.
That and the whole “catch some balls” insult to Spencer, dog insult seem to be a theme…

Marcy Weaver is NOT a monster in disguise! She’s just a regular human girl! XD You guys are wasting your brain power on these theories.
*sigh*
Lol I don’t see why people think that she’s midnight it makes no sense and she seems to be popular in the school so she isn’t new their. and if it was midnight she would be a new student. And midnight can’t transforms so it can’t be her.
So, Marcy’s not in disguise but cheerleader = monster.
All the high school movies say it’s so and we know the movies always tell the truth!
Watch her, fellas, keep watching!
Her true nature WILL reveal itself
Agreed! Cheerleader evil, Shadow kill!
She MUST be a monster! I demand it!
The heck you talking about? she is a teenage girl. They are all monsters in disguise.
Considering the ages and time frame, I’m not sure the ball catching insult was a reference to dogs…
It’s a reference to sports!
Sure, ok, lets go with that then 😉
