“…Key to the blood lock…” Needs blood to work and probably – if we’re getting properly convoluted for a suitably mythical piece of ritual magic – EITHER it was essential that “victim” sacrificed himself to make it work OR it changes the outcome of the ritual in a way Terminus doesn’t expect……
This reimagined scene from “Star Wars: a New Hope” was literally the only thing that came to mind for me when I saw that knife plunge into the old master’s guts. Link is SFW: https://youtu.be/to2SMng4u1k
I’m not sure the guy doing himself in means he counts as a willing sacrifice.
That said, it’s conceivable this happened in this fashion because the high father was intentionally killing himself with the blade. *That* said, it’s even still possible that happened, and he’s still not a willing sacrifice.
I mean, it could be that the blade required a willing sacrifice, and he was intentionally giving it an unwilling one, specifically to mess up Terminus’s plans.
It at least feels likely that the blade needs a willing sacrifice, and this didn’t seem very much like it to me.
ooooh shit…not going to end well….

Something tells a willing sacrifice on this knife means something other than what green boy intended.
