Hi, I’ve been reading for a long time but haven’t posted before, but now I just have to post a crazy theory in 3 parts.
(Each part assumes the previous one is true.)
Crazy theory part one: Lord Mortis is Shadow’s father.
They have the same skin tone and similar tails(heart shaped).
He was extra protective of her specifically against Terminus.
And the way Moonlight introduced them is a bit suspicious, almost like “remember that baby you left on my doorstep? she’s grown up now”.
That of course leads to two questions, why leave her like an orphan at the sisterhood? and who is the mother?
I believe the answers are related, Shadow’s existence was scandalous because of the mother’s identity.
What identity? that’s where this theory is crazy…
Crazy theory part two: Shadow is a hybrid from Mortis and a human woman.
Previously I would just leave it at that and say that Shadow’s mother would be left out of the story, but…
Here we have a human woman with knowledge of the Noxians, to the point where she could identify Anna’s relation to Terminus from a blood sample. Most likely weird hormones caused by pregnancy, suggesting she has seen such a thing before (her own?).
She also has a brotherhood aegis.
Because this is a story characters are more likely to be connected to each other, so…
Crazy theory part three: That doctor is Shadow’s mother.
So how did she get Mortis’ aegis?
Did he give it to her as a gift or memento?
Did he forget it?
Did she steal it without him noticing, making him think he dropped it somewhere?
It doesn’t really matter, at least until we know more about her motivations.
your theories if they left me speechless although we will have to wait for the comic to have almost an end explained although I see it as somewhat difficult since I made calculations and practically in a year 26 pages can be done since 365 ÷ 7 comes out almost as 52 weeks and if the comic is updated for two weeks this would be 26 pages although if it goes 40 or 50% it would take like 5 or 6 years so you have to wait …..
A comic is released EVERY week most of the time so we can calculate with 40 pages per year since sometimes the next page takes two weeks. Now, brandon said he’ll make about 4 more chapters, and since a chapter has about 50 pages or so, it will probably take (200:40 =) about 5 years until the comic is finished
> So how did she get Mortis’ aegis?
Why “Mortis”?
And if it’s from a random Noxian… when one of them is killed in an accident, how quickly others can locate and retrieve the body and aegis without creating new risks of exposure?
Especially if after the accident in question this bed, closet or the entire building does not exist anymore?
What happens if a Noxian “loses” one? For example, if a Noxian chose to give his aegis to his human girlfriend, could he get a replacement? Would the old one be found at all costs, or would they just allow it to remain supposedly lost?
Is this any different than if a Noxian “accidentally breaks” their aegis? Would they need to bring in the bits? If so, how carefully would the bits be scrutinized to verify that they were really aegis bits? (That is, would it be easier to make a fake broken aegis pass muster than it would be to make an aegis?
Also, how hard are they to make? Who is responsible for making them? Would Lord Mortis possibly be in a position to have an extra aegis made for his girlfriend? (That way, it’s not technically his, it’s hers. Sure, it was illegal for him to do it, but if he’s in the right position, then he could be in charge of catching himself, which would make it pretty unlikely for it to happen.)
Well, consider the fact that an Aegis opens the portals and allows you to pass through them, one could not lose one, or give one away without being trapped on one side of the portal…
Which implies that either these humans have access to a supply of them, or have taken them from someone who has access to them.
But considering the supposed old age of Nox needed to forget where the Axis entrance is, a lot of Noxians could die on Earth surface.
Yes… Some must be trapped on Earth, (well… it depends if more than one could cross with the same aegis if they do together, in contact)
A bad timing with a armed human, just and accident or whatever, a noxian could be trapped outside Nox for a multiple reasons and long time ago.
Only if they can be tracked and Noxians always do recover missions just to avoid that, it could change this situation.
Even Tim, a regular boy, could prepare the most basic trap for a Noxian… yeah… Shadow… a younger one, but a noxian with an Aegis after all.
Well, that’s a bit of information i missed when I started speculating.(aegis opens portals)
Also: Have a supply of them or taken them. No third option, make them?
So would that be impossible for a human even with knowledge of how?
As for TBeholder’s question of why Mortis.
It seemed like the logical conclusion to a crazy theory.
Of course my head is now full of more questions and ideas based on assumed answers.
Am I actually on to something?!?
It would have been so easy for Brandon to just say “Shadow ins’t a hybrid” but he hasn’t.
How much cargo can be taken through an aegis portal? We know that small items like socks, scissors, or a bag full of candy are possible. But what is the limit?
What about “passengers”?
I’ll assume NO.
How personal are aegises? Can anyone use them (for portals, doc used it to read emotions(or is it linked to her?!?)) or are they “linked” to one individual?
For the sake of crazy theory I’ll assume they are personal (for portal use, not emotion reading) and can’t be unlinked.
With those assumptions…(and earlier theory parts)
Crazy theory part four: the aegis
Shadow would have to have been born in the human world.
So how would Mortis get her home to Nox? He can’t take a passenger.
Answer: He “borrowed” a spare aegis from the brotherhood’s stockpile and linked it to his daughter, that way she had her own and could be taken to Nox.
Now, a brotherhood aegis linked to an infant girl is an “inconvenient” piece of evidence, so what is the best place to hide it?
Answer: Give it to your human girlfriend!!!
If she keeps it hidden in the human world, there is really no risk that a noxian finds it(they aren’t even actively looking).
I want to say that I only feel confident about the first part of the theory, (Mortis is Shadow’s father) as that is the only one actually hinted at in the comic. The rest is speculation.
About aegises (aegi?) “…For the sake of crazy theory I’ll assume they are personal (for portal use, not emotion reading) and can’t be unlinked.”
That’s a pretty big assumption (but you admit it’s necessaryy for your “crazy theory”) but what evidence from Brandon’s canon can you cite?
Without evidence to the contrary, I suggest that an aegis when used for portal opening (or emotions/ body functions) is like a door key so posession is all one needs. Even more advanced items like car remotes aren’t attuned to one owner (good if they were!) and just having the device in hand is all that’s necessary for it to work.
Sorry about your theory.
There ARE differences, male aegises only give closet access, fenale ones give bedding access. That’s all we have been told for sure. (So far)
As long as you have one and know how to use it, you’re good. They aren’t magically linked to a certain user or anything. You are assigned one when you enter a guild, it’s sort of a badge of honor in that respect.
As for the humans having them, I really can’t say yet. I’m just glad you guys are keeping yourselves entertained!
Depends on whether replicas would need to be exact copies, and probably not.
Thus, not necessarily “both functions and the same shape” copy. In fact, it’s an advantage not to do so. Then functional ones would be not recognizable, and recognizable ones not functional.
Also, keys may need to be registered or tuned to the network, then they are not easily copied on the wrong side of the door, even by those who can readily replicate all the magic.
Just because a web comic author could easily correct an incorrect guess in theorycrafting comments on their website doesn’t mean they will. Generally, they’ll only do that for ones that are either super-off, already contradict things stated in canon, or really bother them. Most bad theories will simply get ignored.
For example, if I suggested that I thought Shadow and Tim were siblings or cousins, Brandon would jump on and tell me I was wrong and he’d already canonically stated that. But if I were to suggest that Tim is Shadow’s brother’s cousin’s sister’s uncle’s nephew’s son-in-law’s future roommate, I would probably at best get a laugh, but likely no author response.
Well, except for the fact that Tim is Shadow’s mother’s cousin’s sister’s uncle’s niece’s cousin’s daughter’s future significant other, which could *possibly* be seen as a contradiction to the former claim, so…
I have a theory and that is that humans have unlimited access to the aegris of the Noxians, so they do not know what to do with them and they are looking for someone who had contact with them since, for that, well, the extermination of the Noxians is easy when they discover the way to go they will catch one and they will use it to see their weaknesses and seen one although I do not know if it works and it is the flashback camera, when tim took a photo of Shadow it is around him it had colored lights and he was blinded for a moment therefore if they discover the weaknesses practically the Noxians and the humans would start an imminent war in which the humans have an advantage but there are problems since the Noxians have the nucleus that I don’t know what it can do but we will have to wait …
What would be the point?
A human faction could have a goal to exploit Noxian portals, rather than secure them against local rivals. But they’d try to keep it secret – the best dagger is the one enemies don’t see coming. Secrecy requires very limited numbers, which is not very conducive to having “let’s pick a fight with an entire world!” way of thinking, much less actual ability to do so.
So a more attractive move #1 would probably be: collect as many magic users as possible, #2: find the right spell, #3: use magical disguises in a “we are just passing by” infiltration.
At which point it most likely would fail. If Shadow can notice what a transformed Noxian among the humans does NOT have, the opposite would be much easier.
The ones more likely to succeed would be ones offering a honest alliance (after all, Noxians can easily tell if you take a hypothetical common threat seriously).
Also, if Noxians had a problems with some human faction, perhaps they could respond by locking out the entire network in an affected region for a while. They can pop up wherever they want, humans must move around and search for invisible portals, which would more annoy other humans than anything.
Does method-of-operation used by the Aegis-technology enforce a 1-to-1 policy, as in “only 1 traveler per Aegis”, or can an unlimited number of Humans &/or Noxians pass-thru, while 1 person uses an Aegis to hold the passage open?
I think Mortis is her brother, he seems to young to be shadow’s father unless he was a kid when shadow’s mother had shadow and that isn’t Brandon’s style so I think they are siblings
I made sure to count the number of fingers on the silhouette, but I didn’t even think to look at the shadow.
Pity it’s not well-defined enough to show whether there are three or four, but I do note that the shape seems a bit off, so I suppose it could be a different hand structure.
XD I like the pun and your Lord Mr. Brandon although I must admit that this page will be number 1 in XD theories there are already 1000 and 1 but well we will have to comment less and wait although I also wondered if very soon the weakness of taking photography since when tim took a picture of Shadow around him, it was like lights affects me if we will see that technique used again or not, who knows
Postscript: I hope this comment doesn’t form comment section 5 if so remove it and thus less trouble and I can’t wait to see our human lead return after half a year XD….
Hello again to the community, I tell you that I have been calculating lately about the comic but that, well, it came to my mind how many pages there are for the years, they already know from 2014 to now and I saw that in 2014 there are 9 pages, 2015 It has 55, 2016 = 45, 2017 it has 31, 2018 (27), and last year 2019 about 36, now this year there are 13, according to my calculations, there could be between 10 and 20 more pages for this year, obviously counting on The rest of Mr. Brandon’s fortnight rested them and I do not expect this information from my calculations to be useful to all of us and we wait for more pages to come out
Postscript: I saw that in 2015 it was the most drawn year of the comic and that it was going down little by little, let’s hope the weekly updates return one day …
This will be my last comment until the next page … OH, IF TIMOTHY NEWTON IS ALIVE, HE DIDN’T DIE FOR HIS HUMAN BRIDE TO FORGET ME THE MOND XD, IT’S IMMORTAL, (cough, cough) well, I’m talking about the Twitter post but hey, wait now. Almost done, there is very little left for the 217 to be finished. I feel that years have passed since he did not return well, at least we continue with him, although I do not know how to anger the plot, but as I say “always in all darkness there is still a light that is hope
Postscript: Thanks Mr. Brandon, the wait was worth it XD I say goodbye to this page.
Wow just… WOW.
This is one of the best comics i’ve read in a long time. The story telling and artstyle, the story itself just wow. if you plan to make it into a hard copy i would defnetly buy it and will problably translate some of it for some friends. damn thats a f*cking good one…

You just got to the right solution with the wrong method
Not all the chapters will be equal in length, for instance, the last chapter will be more of an epilogue than anything.
yeah, that’s why I said ~about 50 or so~ pages
also apologies if I sound toxic or something
Eh? Theorizing and guessing how many pages are left is not toxic. haha Carry on.
If you were making trouble I’d tell you. XD
> So how did she get Mortis’ aegis?
Why “Mortis”?

I mean that nox is another dimension, basically.
But according to that logic and the logic of physics, there must be other dimensions, right?
But considering the supposed old age of Nox needed to forget where the Axis entrance is, a lot of Noxians could die on Earth surface.
Yes… Some must be trapped on Earth, (well… it depends if more than one could cross with the same aegis if they do together, in contact)

no page today ? (I have almost written no mikl today instead”””)
Unfortunately not. This is my “off” week of my bi-weekly schedule I’m running currently!
Or maybe she’s suddenly afraid because you’re appearing to be more and more shady and insane. Ever consider that, doc?
Hope Terminus will be banned and that his aegis will be removed to him…
Hey Brandon, what was the question that you liked the most?
Watch the doctor be shadow’s mother
*Buzzer* Oh, sorry, but do try again! 😉
I’m sorry I’m just trying to to think ahead and rule out any loose ends, won’t happen again, promise
Hah, don’t worry about it, I’m just playing around. You can guess all you like!
But does she know Shadow’s mother?
I think we’ve never seen shadow’s mother…
Probably
*Ding ding ding* You are correct!

after all there is still hope, hope which is coming back from you sir brandon thanks

It could be week to week sometimes, it could be two weeks between updates.

Ok thanks

please make it a hard copy, i beg you!!!!!
I mean he said he’d do It someday. Just look in the FAQ tab
