When you see Shadow standing in the Moonlight, it’s obvious this music title pop up in your mind. ^_^

On another note: I realized just today that you work with the guys from CnC. And you came up with Scarlet? Awesome! That squirrel is quite something <3
The cuteness level is of the scale, and it’s obvious that she’ll be visiting him more then once. She is in the Intro. As to how she enters and leaves his room, I’m thinking she can open locked windows and doors from the out side with monster magic or she might be use a closet portal. =^.^=
Well, of course she’ll visit him again, duh 😛
But I’m curious if he’ll just let her go like this or if he will ask her to visit him again.. or maybe, she’ll ask him if it would be ok to visit him again.
And for the portal thing…. I once read a short comic where the monsters used some kind of portal-technology to actually crawl out from under the beds of people and I’m curious if it will be something like his here, too or maybe some kind of magic the monsters can use to appear wherever they want. Or if they use some… well.. some kind of natural portals between their world and the human one… or maybe they live in the human world and are just well hidden…. argh, so many possibilities XD
You’ll just have to wait and see!

Just to clarify for anyone as confused as I was when I first read this. Shadow is here and will stay here in The Monster Under The Bed strip, at least as far as I know. Scarlet the Squirrel is on permanent loan to the Cats n’ Cameras comic. If Shadow were there, the fur would fly. Probably Jim’s… in huge hunks… in every direction…
The suggestion was discussed briefly, but I had to say no. LOL!
Scarlet is an easy fit, Shadow… not so much.
(grin) The fun way to make a one-shot crossover would be to have Tim come in to pick up some pictures he’d taken of Shadow…
Yeah, but this story doesn’t take place in a world half populated by walking, talking animal folk. XD So drawing a connection, canon or not, might be a bit of a stretch.

Very nice page, but i have to admid i am a little confused. “Shadow” isn´t much of a feminin name.
Does that name have a deeper meaning? Maybe hinting to sertain powers she has?
And will you make that final pic of her available as a desktop wallpaper? I would require 1680×1050…
It’s gender neutral, as it really isn’t a name, exactly.
You get used to it very fast.
To Brandon, specifically: Someone mentioned her thighs earlier. My only comment is that they’re a bit… shaplier… than I would expect on an eight-year-old. And Shadow’s dress is cut VERY high, although her cape would normally cover her to the knees. That’s by HUMAN standards, of course. By the standards of the (redacted by poster), who knows?
What’s bugging ME is in the ‘reveal’ panel. What the hell is cutting off the corner of the chest of drawers in the lower left-hand corner?
In comparison to how I normally draw the female figure, her legs are pretty thin currently! 😉 I guess we can chalk it up to her non-human status.
And we will be learning shortly that she does not share the trait we might call ‘Modesty’ at least regarding her body.
Oh, and that thing in the corner is Tim’s blanket. It’s still on the floor.

To Panoctu specifically: last week, I censored myself by saying “gaaak” and having Brandon strangle me when I was about to mention Shadow’s name in Japanese.
Well, in Japanese, shadow is kage (KAH-gay). (Yes, the same as the CEO of Anthrocon for any furries in the thread.) If you reverse the letters in my choking sound effect, you get “kaaag”. How would YOU pronounce that?

I don’t know or even CLAIM to know the language. I know certain WORDS in it because they came up a lot in the days before dubbed and subbed videos, and before manga were translated. Another word is Rei (ray). I ran across it first in Urusei Yatsura as the name of Lum’s ex-boyfriend, whose intelligence level… Well, let’s just say that he was to a box of rocks as a box of rocks is to Stephen Hawking.
Rei also cropped up as a name in Neon Genesis Evangelion as the name of Rei Ayanami, the almost emotionless pilot of Eva Unit Zero.
One of the tertiary meanings of the word rei in Japanese IS zero…

Looks I was right about her giving Tim a hug, though she still might kiss him before she go back to her home. The odds are still the same, 60% on the cheek, 40% on the lips. Nice way for her to say her name standing in the moonlight and making a shadow fall on the floor.
I wouldn’t put too much stock in that bet… she doesn’t even know what kissing is yet! 😉

Not really. Point me towards another female Bed Monster named Shadow and then perhaps I’ll concede the point.
On my (admittedly short) list of known pop-culture characters named Shadow, there is:
A) A Hedgehog with a Chaos Emerald addiction
B) A mysterious Mercenary with a Dog and a very uniquely-gifted artist for a daughter.
C) The main character from the Neil Gaiman book ‘American Gods’
Actually, after I have mentioned that I think this name a bit cliche, too, I thought about it again… yeah, there have been some demons and monster named like that, but that seems quite a while ago and I couldn’t even say where or when, if it was a movie, book or comic… so, maybe it used to be cliche but by now it’s rather… underused. So I approve of this name 😀

One of my first ideas before I knew her real name was something like “Penumbra” (meaning “halfshadow” in latin) and if Tim found that her name sounded weird, he would have asked her if he could just call her Penny… but who would want a monstergirl named penny, right? XD

@Brandon: Wouldn’t it actually have been two? Even so, neither MegaPencil nor I said that it was a bad name (no, I actually kinda like), just that it seemed a bit cliche… and for that I already corrected my statement since I don’t have any evidence for other monstergirls with that name. It was just (in my case) the expactation that something as extraordinary as a monster would have an extraordinary name, but that was plain stupid of me since this isn’t an unwritten rule or anything and if I distance myself from that expectation… yeah, as I said, I actually like her name ^^
Oh, the comments I’m referring to weren’t brought up here. You guys are all generally favourable and open to whatever. I’ve seen various opinions pop up in different places on the internet, though, in Forums and comment sections in various galleries. Generally, I think the response is positive (or silently neutral, at least) while I’ve seen a few responses that immediately disliked the name outright. Such is the nature of everything, though.
I never expected 100% satisfaction with anything, in fact, the whole time I was [REDACTING] everything here, I knew that some people probably wouldn’t like her name. That’s perfectly alright, though! XD
It changes nothing in the end. Shadow is Shadow, regardless of her name, and she’ll still be the same as she ever has been so far.
True enough. People will never have a 100% consent. But even if that’s all fine and well, there’s no need to phrase our opinions in a way that will hurt the one you’re giving it and that’s often the problem. Everyone has their right for a personal opinion but that’s no reason to not beeing polite while stating it.
On another note: your statement in the last sentence… that’s what brings a story to life. Regarding the characters as living beeings. You’re absolutely right, she is who she is, no matter her name (true for everyone) 😀
Panoctu: If I REALLY lost you with the Tim Newton part (sarcasm and irony don’t come across well in text), Tim (the male hero of the strip) = Timothy = Timothy Newton. Does he want Shadow? Right now, perhaps only as the coolest thing he’s ever seen and as a possible friend. In ten years, he’ll want her… differently.
And based on the first few pages Brandon posted, Shadow will want Tim that way too.
