Such a nice page…. I understand why Shadow is absolutely in a mess…. And when we think Tim is waiting for her to present her the two other people…. And Ruth who tries to show her son that she is Noxian… It is a complete mess of a story….
It’s not THAT messy. XD It just has multiple plot lines going on at the same time. I trust my readers can keep track of a few simple plot threads at the time. Haha.
I forgot the human girlfriend of Terminus has been more or less arrested by another Noxian woman in disguise…. So I am quite unsure the direction it goes.
So far we have ~5 plot lines, and still not as much as kids movies.
Yes, we have maps that been updated then trashed because we missed a hour of something on all the plots that we had to hire Doctor Who to help us straighten up are maps with all the plots happening!

Hm. Okay. I admit it, I did NOT see a fainting spell coming, but that fit the scene very nicely. I get that ‘Night Mother’ is a rank/title/honorific, but Shadow calling her ‘Mom’ right then was really cute.
She’s in charge of all of them, but the Night Mother loves ‘her darkest angel’ especially. I will not be convinced otherwise.
She did raise that child herself! The others came of their own accord.
Out of curiosity, will we be returning to the human side of the story soon?

So query about the Nox and how they do things. Just seeing from the conversations and scenes prior, especially the one that just happened. I’m guessing this is a super male dominant race of people who just kinda lord over things ala barbarism, but like does Shadow have a say here or can he just pick a woman out like an item and she’s just gotta deal with it?
No, this is a diplomatic matter, not a normal social bit. Terminus thinks that Shadow is somehow needed to open the door.
One of the rare in real life, common in fiction totally evil people. Although most of those that do exist seem to be leaders. Guess we never hear about the nobodies that are totally evil.
Nox seems to be socially divided into separate gender-bases.
There are male “societies” with a High Lord at the head and there are fequivalent female societies with a High Mother leading. There are also independant agents like Eclipse, who aren’t members of the major societies.
Brandon hasn’t shown much of the interactions between the two social moieties, except on a personal level (Terminus & Nightmare, Terminus’s murder of High Lord Mortis and High Mother Moon’s “interaction” with Lord Mortis [Page 139] where they call each other “Moonie” and “Morty” (shudder, ugh!).
But who knows what the connections are behind the Abductors of Anna? Are they agents of a shadowy human government body or disguised agents of Noxian gendered societies?
Only Brandon knows for cetain and he hasn’t revealed details yet (if ever).

Oh yeah I agree on the like, we’re looking at high society bit, totally. Just from the way it’s set up it’s clear these are nobles within a much larger state that may have different societal rules and circles. I mean think about how many masons you’d need with just those windy maze like stone paths! (Obviously this is fiction and that is a joke, tag for the potentially unaware)
But that’s also sort of my query. Because she’s obviously some kind of noble herself given her relations and things, is she bound by some sort of social law or precedent to go along with his advances, or can she basically go “ew no” and bail out of this?
No,I think that, sinceShadow is/was a foundling with no admitted biological parents, she’s not of such nobility that she’d be bound by social conventions.
Even Terminus, the newest High Lord has to ask formally anyway. Not demand, not compel as despots would.
A more socially atute noble (of an older lineage) would have ascertained his chances of acceptance beforehand insted of creating such a scene of potential embarrassment in PUBLIC! (eww) One such would also have prepared Nightmare rather than subjct her to such public humiliation.
But we all know Terminus is a real dickhead and a triplle-barreled, copper bottomed shit anyway.
So, I believe (for what that’s worth) that Shadow is perfectly able, socially, to say “Fuck off, hairylegs” (or equivalent) and I further believe that she will have the support of High Mother Moon in so doing, given her reference to the”green scoundrel” who has murdered her own sex partner, High Lord Mortis.
Separately, I believe (on no evidence) that the wall/tunnel cladding is a kind of magically generated metal like mithril, rather than stone and only requires a few spell-casters, no so much stonemasons. There have been no scenes of construction either way for us to check.
