French beer is just atrocious. It’s thin and weak-flavoured. (But I freely admit that’s a personal opinion.)
Until 1914 we wee moe closey allied to Germany and Middle Europe and they had (& still do) much better beer.
Bohemian Pilsener and Bavarian Doppelbock come immediately to mind.
Think it has to do with weather. England made some very good wine once upon a time – before 1850 I think it was, when the weather went to heck and back.
German beer was good. I remember there was a good pub just off base in (CFB) Lahr. We used to go there whenever we had to fly goods or warm bodies over. Those were the good old days-late 60’s early 70’s.
Historically the French were in Canada before the English and by the time the English invaded there were Fr Cdn breweries. These days the Quebequois do make some decent beer.
I am both French and Canadian and I have to disagree. Even before the end of the XVth century, the UK created settlements in Newfoundland which belongs to Canada. As such, If it is true that the French Québec was clearly more populated than the English settlements in Canada in the XVIth to XVIIIth centuries, the first country which settled were the UK.
The English created bases in Newfoundland as did the Portuguese and the French. Most of them were seasonal as they were there for the fish, seals and whales.
Blighty didn’t become Blighty until the Duke of Orange subjugated the Irish.
Brandon and I share the same birthday? Tabranac! There’s this beer made by Hindu priests in Mustang Nepal called of course Mustang. It’s very good. I should send him some.
Maybe time to perhaps sample some other stuff from other countries that were part of the allies for the brits, the french and german people who might have taken the recipes and used them to enhance other brews and such.
Brandon, I was thinking… how exactly can Tim possibly endager Shadow by exposing her to 2 people?
I mean, we can all agree that Tim can defend himself saying that Shadow inadvertently framed him for breaking in girl’s bedroom, which can lead to him having to face legal action and other pretty dire consequences.
Can Shadow respond with something here? Having one’s identity exposed without one’s consent cannot be considered pleasant, but thinking of it… can it really cause any harm or trouble? Like, Shadow getting punished by the Noxian authorities for disclosure the presence of their realm? Or worse. Imagine if Tim’s actions somehow put Shadow’s life in direct danger, like expose her to FBI, scientists. If that’s the case I wouldn’t be on Tim’s side whatsoever.
It’s a good question that hasn’t yet been addressed directly.
brandon has said (in one of the forums) tat Noxian justice was pretty direct (I paraphrase)
There are no courts, no gaols & punishments seem limited to te death penalty.
What is the penalty for revealing (inadvertantly or not) the existance of Nox?
What is the old saying. Extreme claims require extreme evidence. Most won’t believe them. There are those that will, didn’t we hear of a group hunting them, had several captured devices. Plus the story to come.
Yay! Brandon, do human authorities know of Noxians? With how much interactions happen between certain human and Nox individuals I’ll be amused if FBI or some secret human organizations don’t eventually learn of them. And what is their reaction towards that knowledge? Live in peace? Try to capture them? Try to somehow infiltrate the Nox world? Directly or via recruiting certain Noxians I presume.
What is “human authorities”?
Some groups obviously had to do. We have seen a glimpse of one, indeed.
Fires happen, and beds and closets are not gas- and shockwave- proof (and limit the field of vision)
Or consider the subset of humans known as “flinchy bastards”. There’s always someone who may react to suspicious noises from soft cover in his room by quick-drawing a handgun and pouring half a magazine in there first, looking what it was later (also, involvement with some sort of clandestine activities is likely, what’s with training and reason to be this flinchy).
Incidents are bound to happen.
Though a single event in itself would only reveal existence of weird-looking humanoids, one of whom apparently managed to break in without proper tools and for unknown reasons. At most, it would also reveal one function of an aegis (and as such, possibly distract from the other).
“There’s always someone who may react to suspicious noises from soft cover in his room by quick-drawing a handgun and pouring half a magazine in there first,….”
Only in the USA!.
Brandon has already set the tale in small(er)-town Canada, so a marauding Terminus is more likely to be molested by an amorous moose (that’s NOT a Scottish mouse)
«Happy birthday Bob!» ⓒ WHAT’S NEW with Phil & Dixie
As in gangsters and spies, not Hollywoodsters (however dangerous those may be to everyone starting with themselves). There are many nice places like Jamaica or Colombia, where a chance of this may be far above average, but the incident would mostly stay under wraps for the same reasons. In “full IngSoc” places this would be less likely to happen, but would be a better kept secret (of some power group).
There’s no reason to assume Noxian portals coverage is so small, or limited at all, and if they can pop almost anywhere, they may have to deal with almost anything.
As to possible reactions… The portal network is the salient feature one would have to notice, and it’s potentially of great strategical value, and there are very few meaningful objectives/approaches. One could want to:
A) use it!
A1) without asking permission,
A2) negotiate authorized use,
B) deny to the enemies.
C) block on one’s own territory.
Capture by force is an obvious way to get A1 and B, alliance with its current owners is an obvious way to A2 and B.
Beyond that, many miscellaneous minor goals, some of which could be meaningful and some delusional. Study the Noxians, learn magic, learn more magic, learn the secret of removing warts from the Fair Folk, fight the incursion of demons, contact Space Utopia for further enlightenment, whatever.
There is probably a scanning feature already so that Nox females are directed through the “under-bed” outlets and Nox males go through the “in-the-closet” outlets.
Since that system already scans for gender,it’s very likely that it has to detect Nox genetics to allow access at all. It won’t work for humans.
Brandon has not reported human boys disappearing in closets or girls vanishing under beds.
There are no compelling reasons to create this feature, whether after or before catastrophic damage to the system.
A simpler hypothesis: as we have seen, those “guilds” are communities that hold (and trade!) compact territories. So the different groups have easy physical access on their side to entry points of different portal networks (each leading to a specific type of places), not all of which are useful, safe or even functional. This would be sufficient to have preferred target destinations like this.
Which would requie a porter at each entrance and maybe even a ticketing system to control acces to the “right” portals and restrict access to the ‘problematic” ones.
That in urn would need a large manpower (or Noxpower) contingent.
It would be more efficient to use the automatic scanner system.
Because one Noxian can remotely monitor the readouts of several scanners.
Add in access controls to permit (or deny) entry to each outlet and there’s an additional benefit in keeping the operator separate from anybody (like Terminus or his goon squad) who want to FORCE entry or exit.
Not going to lie. The last two pages have put Marcy and Tim and an interesting angle to each other. I have a feeling Tim is paying attention to everything but also has some attention on the fact that
He can see right down her top
We borrowed a lot of our laws from the Brits. And we borrowed a lot of beer from the French.
That was a mistake for sure!
French beer is just atrocious. It’s thin and weak-flavoured. (But I freely admit that’s a personal opinion.)

Well I suppose he was speaking broadly to alcoholic beverages. France is known for wine not necessarily for beer.
Think it has to do with weather. England made some very good wine once upon a time – before 1850 I think it was, when the weather went to heck and back.

it’s Monday and no new comic 🙁
There wont be for a bit. The author is on vacation.
Prepping for Black Friday
There’s no mention on Patreon. Did he say that on Facebook, elsewhere?
Not that I know of…
it was in a tweet
Ok… He’s celebrating American Turkey Day.
And his birthday. 🎂
Brandon and I share the same birthday? Tabranac! There’s this beer made by Hindu priests in Mustang Nepal called of course Mustang. It’s very good. I should send him some.
There have been 21 comics in 2021 and we’re at week 47, so pretending it being Monday means anything is just wildly optimistic
ah ok
Am I alone in wanting to explore some ShadowxTerminus?
I believe Shadow would love some one on one time with the Termite, though less wedding and more shotgun…
Would love to see it, but I highly doubt it’s in the cards
Maybe time to perhaps sample some other stuff from other countries that were part of the allies for the brits, the french and german people who might have taken the recipes and used them to enhance other brews and such.
Or maybe not.
The German Pure Food Laws of 1516 (Reinheitsgebot) is STILL enforced today.
Only barley, hops an water are legal to make beer.
You can add fruit peelings, stable straw or sawdust if you want, but it’s not real beer.
You may even find somebody who’ll drink it. Good Luck!
the comic was great but now its just getting boring
A little delay in the next page, it seems. However, it looks like there are some new items in the Fan Art section. What a delight.

I think the word might be exceptional, not extreme.
This sounds to me like you’re describing local politics.
The comic is back on schedule, just letting everyone know. I’m working on 250 right now after my two week vacation from all work!

The people who abducyed Terminus’s little toy, Anna, may be part of that.

It’s not internet, it’s a bunch of doors.
Magical portals, not “doors” And who’s to say that Nox hasn’t set up a WAN for their own use, without connection o “the internet” (ptui!)
Huge fan of this comic. Congrats on reaching 7 years. Keep up the great work!
Hopefully we will get a post soon.
