I like how organic this relationship is turning out. The early curiousity on both sides, the glances, the hand holding, then kisses and now we’re at this point where they’re both learning how to do things. This is sweet, Bi couple immediately knows the perfect way to make love. They all do research and then try it out and if it doesn’t work, because of worries about doing it right, they practise and it gets better. This is a good theme. As someone who has learned how kisses work, with practical research, I can relate.
Nice seeing someone having their ‘first time’ without somehow knowing more tricks than a seasoned hooker in a dockyard, apparently ‘porn’ isn’t a big thing for either of them so no expectations to try to live up to 😉
It’s a touching story with touching, nicely done !!
Noxians DIDN’T evolve.
They were created complete and perfect from the vision of Brandon (whose name is to be forever blessed) after a sumptuous repast of oysters, ale and cheese.
That is why the faithful recreate that meal whenever the moon is right and record their visions for posterity, striving to achieve that same perfection.
Putting aside the possibility there were created by magic, I would say they still have plenty of common with primates – opposable thumbs, big brains, visual acuity, social behaviour … and it’s not like if primates lacked tail or something.
My version is: pre-apocalyptic Noxians where snooping on everywhere and trying to stick a finger (or something else) into every pie in Multiverse, so the population was a blend of mortal humanoids (local and from other worlds), demons (thus feeding on fear thing) and fairies (maybe, why not).
But the selection pressure that shaped them into what they are now was on magic resistance… as in “do not wind up turned into a statue or very short-living hybrid of a chair and cockroach as a result of the Big Magical Kaboom”.
Also consider that in a grand civilization using portal network, eventually most won’t live on Nox. Why would you sit there all the time, if so many great places are but one door away? So the likely result is: only the portal technicians and some of R&D lived primarily on Nox, while most high-ups, peasants and merchants lived elsewhere and only visited.
In which case:
1) the only organizations left largely intact when most portals failed were those that had the majority of members directly worked with the portals and Nox infrastructure. Hence the guilds as the only surviving structure. And
2) almost anyone who was on Nox at the time was a magically strong and well-trained individual.
So your pre-apocalyptic population was multi-potent (aside:why was there an apocaplyse to start with?) and capable of breeding with other species (demons and/or humans).
It was also technogically (or magically) advanced enough to have developed portals.
Back to the main question.
Why was there an apocalypse?
Well, we know Noxians are fertile with Earthlings. So either they are part-humans to begin with or “close enough”.
It’s a reasonable assumption that they used to both be in touch with more places and much more powerful and confident before the catastrophe, thus most likely did not need secrecy or taboo helping to maintain it.
The post-apoc aspect? All the ruins, forgotten corridors and hydroponic slop can be reduced to consequences of a single catastrophe, and Occam’s trusty razor suggests we do so until some evidence suggests otherwise.
The immediate cause of the problems on Nox (and indeed its fall from greatness) was mentioned: the Axle Axis thing (whatever it was) got broken. This was treated as common knowledge.
The underlying reasons are among the details Terminus was too cocky to check. Which already points at one possibility: considering their attitudes even now, “the operators were too fearless for their own good” is very much on the table.
Of course, “enemy action” is always possible, and comes in “internal” and “external” flavors.
The requirement to involve humans for unlocking may be related to the perceived cause, but it does not tell us much. Presumably it was done by some Noxians in charge immediately after the catastrophe, but those are murky waters. It could be a result of some strategical insight, or annoyance at the local uncooperative incautious fools, or something else entirely.
As any other creature, nobody evolves from anything. Dogs were bred from wolves, cows from a much more dangerous wild version of them, cats from wild cats… all by a superior intelligence. So, if humans and noxians are so alike, this means the Makers are the same for both species. Aliens, perhaps?
But Noxians DIDN’T evolve.
They were created complete and perfect from the will of Brandon.
That addresses your question of Brandon’s superiority and you may argue against that (if you’re game) but I’m not going to, because has creative skills that I don’t so he is (to me) a “superior being”. QED
Yes, Brandon the Greatest is UNIQUE, ergo, there is none like Him and therefore nobody is in the same subset.
Since that is true, He does not use the Pronoun “we”, not being a ruling monarch (yet) and nobody else {NOT being in that subset} is at all qualified to use the plural pronoun when speaking of Brandon the Greatest.
Tim,s circumcised. I am as well. I want to do the same if I,m ever a husband and a father.
if I have sons but I,ll let their mother get a say in the matter first it,s her right.
PENIS

She is adorable. 🙂
Sweet gentle people having sweet gentle sex.

Unfortunately not yet.

I am curious as to why this hasn’t been posted to the Facebook page, did something happen where you are no longer posting on Facebook?
They don’t like nudity over there!
Quick Question: What kind of animal could best describe the physical appearance of Noxians (Bats, etc.)?
Party.
LOL. Good one!
I meant what did Noxians evolve from? Humans evolved from primate ancestors, so what were Noxian ancestors like?
I don’t think it’s any kinda animal from planet Earth. Or I should maybe put it that way: the Noxian equivalent of primates, perhaps…?

Depends on the genus of primate really.
Those which were isolated (lemurs, New World monkeys) kept theirs but the Great Apes which evolved into the anthropoid lines didn’t.
Their evolutionary forerunners had wings though.

Thunk provoking..
But yeah, the fact that they can interbreed is proof of some type of shared history.
As any other creature, nobody evolves from anything. Dogs were bred from wolves, cows from a much more dangerous wild version of them, cats from wild cats… all by a superior intelligence. So, if humans and noxians are so alike, this means the Makers are the same for both species. Aliens, perhaps?

Praise be.
The “Makers” are undefined, they seem to be a mythological element by now.
Though of course there are possibilities.
All things of Nox and its interaction with the human world (Canada) happen only through the Will of Brandon.
Without him Nox does not exist but he is not mythological.
He doesn’t seem to be in any subset of people who use “we”, however.
Yes, Brandon the Greatest is UNIQUE, ergo, there is none like Him and therefore nobody is in the same subset.

There are endless possibilities! mwahahaa.
She’s a 10, but leaves pointy teeth marks.
Shadow: “….and I blew it”
Tim: “Not yet ;)”
