Is Midnight prejudiced against humans?
Correction: Why is Midnight, and the rest of Nox, prejudiced against humanity?
It’s called The Monster Under the Bed. It’s because they are monsters who scare humans professionally, it’s been ingrained in them for as long as anyone can remember. Shadow and people who LIKE humans are the weird ones in Nox.
So, basically the same reazon we humans hate other groups of humans: becauze we were told to when we were young and impressionable and some of us never reconsidered thoze ideas as adults.
I thought it was less like them beeing different “races” (no idea if races is biologically correct here)
and more like them beeing different species. I mean some monkeys are very close to us but very few would like to mate with them. (I guess^^)
“Race” is actually a political term, not a biological one.
There is no scientifically discernable characteristic (or group of them) by which a “race” can be identified. It was tried back in the 1920s but failed.
It usually just means “somebody I don’t want my sister (or daughter) to fuck”.
“Species” would be a more accurate term to use. Species CAN be differentiated.
Most likely would be “a closely related species”. We know of one hybrid. Unanswered question, for now, is “can two hybrids breed”.

I swear, we had ‘the races are equal’ down pat and you guys just had to keep picking at it.
There IS one race – human.
We’re fertile with each other.
When we find another one, that’ll be the test.

Tomo, that’s not the definition of “race” from a biological sense. That’s the definition of “species”. Dogs are the same species but have diferent races. The point is NOT one of “we are the same species” – is more of “we are not dogs”, as in, “we do have a lot of phenotipical diferencies and even genetic markers that can accurately track one’s abncestors (and even a whole branch of paleogenetics devoted to do exactly that to track the species’ evolotion), but that does NOt mean we have separated breeds like doggies do”.
Kindly do not mistake the obvious “we are the same species” statement with an argument against races, because that only gives the racists tools to use against you. Being precise with science termns denies them of the possibility of twisting them against the truth.
Question – what then is the defining characteristic(s) which define a “race”?

Why do they “scare humans professionally”? Sorry if this has been answered in a previous page. Is it like a Monsters Inc type thing? They need scream energy or something?
Pretty much. Considering they can “taste” fear and have trinkets that store charge from it.
We know they count the fear somehow. Whether they do anything with said numbers other than status is unknown. In “Monsters, Inc”, they powered their society with the fear / laughter.
The repeatable and indeed recognizable (#64) increase of gain suggests that their own tele-empathic ability is not restricted to fear, and Aegis works indiscriminately with anything that hits it, so pretty much any intense interest would yield the results.
Fear is just easy to work with (in that both grabbing attention and producing it at useful intensity can be done more or less reliably) without closer interaction.
I think is weird to wonder this now, but if they’re supposed to collect fear from humans, I assume they target a very specific group of humans, because I know a great majority wouldn’t be so scared of girls with clothes like that… And well, for the males there are also weird women out there
They probably have a variety of techniques, and most probably don’t show themselves directly to the humans. Much less get caught by cookies and a blanket.
All they would need is a glimpse of a clawed foot (or hand) in the gloom and a fanged grin in the gloom.
A ghastly chuckle would help but there’d be NO NEED for a full-body shot.
Shadow was only caught because of her used-sock choices.
I don’t like to think about the logistics of it THAT hard… it just is what it is. 😁
I would assume that specific group is called children. Generally, scaring adults is risky – even without the “not THAT scary looking” and “actually sexy” parts, they could easily meet some who will attack. Especially if they would be parents protecting their child.
Child is unlikely to be dangerous even when it tries to attack, is more likely to get scared and parents will likely not believe them when they would be talking about someone coming from under their bed.
Also, well … Monsters Inc, which is based on very similar premise, directly have the monsters demolish any door discovered to lead to some adult OR leading to child which grew up too much. Despite THEIR monsters being scarier.
They are bound to occasionally meet the kind of people who sleep with a gun under pillow. Thus should have some sort of “test before you commit” / “mark dangerous doors” protocols.
Not your back will smell of humans.
I predict Shadow is going to need to hide underwater in the bath. Should bring a snorkel with.

I’m pretty sure Moon has enough info to put two and two together here Shadow. Now that NM told her about a hybrid, it hanging out with you and her old friend who went off the the human world suddenly coming back and taking you under her wing of protection.

Good question: Wonder I’d he’d look more like Ruth if he was born a Noxian?
He’d probably be blue, since that is his “themed” colour, at least that is how I see it.
Interesting… but how would that work?(Human father + Noxian mother with literally yellow skin)
If I may, Brandon, you are the creator, you could implement it anyway. As you lent the magic grimoire from Ruth to Shadow to have a human form for Shadow, Tim, who is half human half noxian, would probably find easily a way to have a noxian form. At least, I find that reasonable.

Nox should have Zen sand gardens to make it more peaceful.
Someday could we get a drawing of what Tim might look like in Noxian form? Maybe as like an extra little drawing that you could do on the side.

Also, he knows about Shadow’s half-Noxian boyfriend (since Nightmare overheard), so probably assumes they do.
That is a good point.. I mean the man himself already has a side (maybe only “side” actually) human girl himself and got her preg. He should be the last person to complain at any rate.
Questions regarding the world of Nox:
1). Aside from being prejudiced against humans, is there any other forms of discrimination in Nox?
2). How exactly does a bonding rite work? Also, is it permanent or can it be nullified(like a human divorce)?
3). Will we learn where Nox is one day?
