That argument (page 171) happened after the Halloween events. (Page 118 and later).
Shadow ALREADY knows that Ruth was Tim’s mum (Page 184) but she had also been sworn to secrecy (by Blackheart) that Tim was a “hybrid” (Page 186).

Midnight does know, from pages 182 to 187 Shadow tells Midnight that Tim is a hybrid when she told her about the conversation she had with Ruth

Yes, Midnight does know that Tim’s “a hybrid” but doesn’t know that Ruth Newton is his mum, nor that Ruth is Mother Moonlight’s missing sister of mystery, Lady Blackheart. Middy has not yet had any contact with Ruth, in either of her forms.
Only Shadow has all the pieces of the puzzle (so far).
Assuming that NM told her the hybrid part, then she has to at least be putting two and two together at this point. And even if she didn’t.
Shadow getting a shitload of “fear” (like her old sister who ran off to be with a human) and now known to be hanging out with a hybrid/human boy.
Ruth, at right around the same time (^), suddenly showing up and explicitly telling her that Shadow was under her protection now, and not to interfere.
She has a LOT of clues at this point. Finding the photo and socks (not to mention the convo they were having when they walked in) should probably put to rest any doubt in her mind that the human boy.. um friend is real.
