Yeah forcing promises on kids is kinda scuzzy ngl.
Forcing a child to “promise” when they have no intention of keeping that promise, only diminishes the value of all other promises from that individual.
Of course, when they can see adults (parents, teachers, politicians) routinely discarding their own promises, the value of ANY promise is compromised.
The practice of claiming any declaration or suggestion to be “a promise” also means that the value of any genuine promise is affected.
These days a spoken promise is not worth much..
