Well, I haven’t [REDACTED] anything yet, so your guess is as good as anybody else’s, really. I do love hearing speculation! Of course, I enjoy hiding things in plain sight, misdirection and red-herrings as well.
Quick Shadow, lie while also telling the truth. Some humans you went to scare the pants off have bright squares in their rooms and watch horrific imagery on them making the fear output greater so you wait patiently til the images are done and stay hidden before striking all while also learning tactics from them!
(I know this is probably not gonna be her excuse but hey.)
I don’t know what the canon explanation is (if there is one we’ll probably find out later), but I imagine it would be calculated from some ratio to do with the number of scares and the potency of them, maybe with a few other variables.
Anything is plausible at this point, however I would like to point out that Moonlight calls her an ‘Old friend’, not her Mother. Of course, maybe mother is just a title? Who was the guild-mother before Moonlight took over? Obviously she’s not the first one.
I still think that Ruth is connected somehow. And another thing: how have Shadow and Tim avoided detection so far? I mean, I can understand the kitchen incident, the father was tired and didn’t observe his surroundings well, but with the Freddy Krueger movies, and all the nights Shadow and Tim have spent talking, you would think that Ruthie at least would notice something. At the very least Tim should be losing sleep and his parents should be noticing this. Are Tim’s parents going to find out? And what will their reaction be?
One last thing; I have heard repeatedly that this is based on a story posted online a long time ago. Is that story still around? I cannot find it.
She’s a Mother, she isn’t evil. I mean, she is a surrogate/adopted Mother figure, but still. Oh yeah, and she rules a fairly large section of Nox on top of that through her guild, so she’s sort of like a Queen, you could say.
You’ve mentioned her tail twice. Are you trying to hint something? Or are you trying to misdirect us? Are tail designs genetic or random? Could it still be Moonlight or could it be her mother other or a sibling?
So Moonlight doesn’t actually know what’s going on, she’s just seen someone else pull a sudden improvement like this through unknown means. In accordance with the Law of Conservation of Detail, I’m assuming that Blackheart got involved with humans as well.
“Darkest Angel” is an interesting nickname for Shadow, I assume it’s some sort of term of endearment. Though I’m wondering why Moonlight calls her “darkest”, is Shadow particularly close to Moonlight compared to the other girls?
Shadow is the only girl in Moonlight’s flock with grey skin like that. Everyone else is fairly colourful, in fact her grey skin is sort of a genetic fluke as we will see soon. Thus, Darkest Angel. Also, yes they do have a closer relationship since Shadow has been raised within the guild since she was left on their doorstep as an infant, whereas the others have all willingly joined the guild, coming from families outside the system.
In essence, Lady Moonlight IS Shadow’s adoptive mother, and is her closest ‘daughter’ although neither of them would ever officially come out and say that, it being rather unfair to the rest of the girls.
As for Blackheart, we’ll figure out that subplot eventually. Add it to the pile. 😉
Cool, I wasn’t actually expecting you to answer that. Or rather, I was expecting you to answer in a very vague and circumspect manner. Thanks for the info.
I know, just because they are both blonde and have the same ‘curl’. Of course, Shadow has the same curl too. And there’s that other orange girl (Sunset) who’s Nightmare’s pal, with the same colour scheme as Blackheart. Must be this ‘Missing Mother’ line of dialogue, obviously she’s called that for a good reason!
Did anyone notice Lady Moonlight and Lady Blackheart have the same tail design? Weird!
The last panel confuses me: Am I supposed to alternate back to Shadow after Moonlight says “How did you do it?” or am I supposed to read the whole thing first?
I love when characters like Monstermom lose their composure.
Lady Blackheart. That’s a cool name. Not as cool as [HAHA NO SPOILERS FOR YOU!] though.
As certain “admiral”?
Well, I haven’t [REDACTED] anything yet, so your guess is as good as anybody else’s, really. I do love hearing speculation! Of course, I enjoy hiding things in plain sight, misdirection and red-herrings as well.
She must have thought quickly – because she still is around.
Quick Shadow, lie while also telling the truth. is there going to be a spinoff of Lady Blackheart?
A spin-off? No, not exactly. We’ll meet her eventually, though. She’s gone, but not forgotten.
the plot thickens.
I think it would help ease my confusion if I knew how their score was determined
Don’t worry about it too much. It’s just a ranking system.
I don’t know what the canon explanation is (if there is one we’ll probably find out later), but I imagine it would be calculated from some ratio to do with the number of scares and the potency of them, maybe with a few other variables.
As true as anything. That’s essentially how I like to think of it.
Well at one point she said that Tim’s fear was very strong.
inb4 Tim’s mom is a night creature thing.
An interesting theory! I’ll add it to the pile. 😉
I have a suspicion. Is “Lady Blackheart” Ruthie?
Wouldn’t that be something? XD
I have just thought of something – assuming the missing mother is Moonlight’s mother, Ruth could be her daughter.
Anything is plausible at this point, however I would like to point out that Moonlight calls her an ‘Old friend’, not her Mother. Of course, maybe mother is just a title? Who was the guild-mother before Moonlight took over? Obviously she’s not the first one.
I was thinking that because of Lady Blackheart’s tail.
I still think that Ruth is connected somehow. And another thing: how have Shadow and Tim avoided detection so far? I imagined Monstermon to be kind of evil or at least very serious, but she actually seems sweet and honestly caring for her girls so far.
I’m curious, bit confused and concerned for what will happen… well done. ^^
She’s a Mother, she isn’t evil. I mean, she is a surrogate/adopted Mother figure, but still. Oh yeah, and she rules a fairly large section of Nox on top of that through her guild, so she’s sort of like a Queen, you could say.
I think she’s a benevolent dictator of her little Noxian realm.
Dictator may be a bit harsh, but… benevolent, yeah.
The aborted attempt at correction in Panel 4, makes me think that maybe “Lady Blackheart” isn’t a stranger to her.
Of course not, she did call her an old friend. And they have the same tail design… hmmm…
You’ve mentioned her tail twice. Are you trying to hint something? Or are you trying to misdirect us? Are tail designs genetic or random? Could it still be Moonlight or could it be her mother other or a sibling?
I’ll never tell~~!
😉
Don’t fib. Of course you’ll tell. Much later in a future page! ^_^
Well, yeah. That is true!

Well someone is definatelly gonna have to bail her out of this one. Or she actually has a good lie. Either way somethings a brewing in monster mania
Oooh, another cliffhanger for the week. But for laughing out loud, the conspiracy theories in the comments are hillarious. =P

Am I the only one who thinks that Shadow should tell her the truth about her and Tim?
She might, you never know.
The last panel confuses me: Am I supposed to alternate back to Shadow after Moonlight says “How did you do it?” or am I supposed to read the whole thing first?
Read all of Shadow, then all of Moonlight.
