Considering her position straddling him, if she moves around too much her little gizmo might light up like a Christmas tree. However if it was Shadow on him like that, odds are good that her gizmo would catch fire.

Hey Brandon! So far I’m absolutely loving this. Everyone reading this far should already know, Midnight being like that doesnt effect his relationship with Shadow.
It’s a little funny though how this turned out. “Did Shadow tell you about cake!?” Lol
well, I imagine “love” is the fear that is causing shadow’s gauge to skyrocket, but he doesn’t love midnight. on the other hand, maybe she shouldn’t straddle a teenager who she just woke up… knock on wood, amiright?

I think generally they are tuned to human fear, they don’t even work on other monster characters.

why is it that it seems forbidden to fall in love with a human or a monster in this story is it somthing that happened in the past that they don’t want it to happen again?
My guess, Lady Blackheart befriended a human in the past, hence her shooting up in score from mediocre to awesomesauce, but when that came to light her human friend panicked and denied everything, hence Blackheart’s name and exile. And now Shadow is following in her footsteps.

Panel 5: Tim’s not feeling fear – at least, not phobia-level fear – he’s just nervous of her claws (and somewhat groggy from getting woken up). Hence why in panel 6, nothing registered on the aegis.

So I believe, just being out there, is that the reason his fear gauge only works with shadow so well is because he fears losing her as a friend since hes grown so attatched to her and developed feelings. Its the fear of the unknown that may scream out to the meter?
Of the top of my head I bet this is gonna lead to her explaining that Shadow gains a lot of fear points being around him. Blah blah blah, him misunderstanding that its the only reason she’s with him, and it concludes with them bonding more. Instead maybe it might actually be that she stalks Shadow with Tim more to find the secret between her enormous boost, and ultimately sees them smooch. Going with that, I believe she’ll assume that’s the secret and well.. the rest is history. I might be missing some details here since its been a while since I read the comic from beginning to here.

I’m guessing that the device only reads extreme emotions. And while it was certainly fear at first, affection and love became stronger.
Leads to the idea that more than one girl may be chasing our hero(?) in the future 🙂 Always loved a good harem manga :3
I think of the Aegises the same way I think of the Flux Capacitor in Back to the Future.
That is to say, I don’t think about the intricacies of how they work very much. They just work.
