Excellent! The “M” portion of the encyclopedia! Why, this will empower Shadow to be knowledgeable on all things beginning with the letter “M”, from the Ghanaian region of Maaban to the Myzmtella genus of bellflowers. What a useful and unexpected gift!
Shadow listen to your heart. Do not accept that book even if it can grant you the power to see Tim anytime it can’t be good I just have a feeling that thing is in the Elder Gods territory of dangerous and they can play with a beings soul as if it were clay. Come on knowledge is power but without wisdom to temper it and help focus it it will destroy you.
Also why is everyone assuming Lady Blackheart is Tim’s mom. So far nothing we know about Shadow’s Race (which I hope don’t just call themselves Monster. Cause they are not truly monsters in the sense of the word.) suggests they are shape shifters or that they can have kids with humans. Plus beauty marks are common especially on the face and her hair looks nothing like Tim’s mom’s.
Why do I feel I am the only person at the moment to ask if they would come back in the morning? If it really was that long of a day I would probably be falling asleep right I front of her. No just me? …K I am going to my corner now… (By this I me I would ask if I could sleep on the idea of taking a Book from someone that I was taught not to trust.)
I feel like they were taught something horrible happened to her, not that she is untrustworthy… more like her current existence is impossible given what they thought they knew, thus counteracting the idea that what she did would cause certain doom, whatever it is that she did…
Sooooo Many People Stuck on the M if it’s a true encyclopedia the letter of the volume would be on the Binding to be seen from a book shelf anything on the cover would likely mark the makers of it. Which then begs the question is it a Noxx book or a human book. If its human well she already tryed to kiss him what else could she be interested in learning. If it’s from Noxx what is she trying to learn about that would help her with Tim?
Most likely the “Encyclopedia of Magic”, a single volume.
If so, than either the thing is so powerful that they have deliberately limited the number of copies that exist, or it is difficult to copy for some reason.
I am going to exclude “self erasing” as an option. It seems that magic, if it exists, is a minor aspect of this world, and not one of the foundations of the universe as with many fictional worlds.
Just going to throw this out there, but perhaps the M on the front stands for MOTHER as the word is in bold in the last speech bubble. Also if only the high-mothers have access to the book it could likely contain the truth of what happened to Lady Backheart which could/would likely be quite the revelation for our young shadow.
I wounder how Shadow has a plant growing in her room with no natural light. I also noticed that it’s either an M on the back of the book or a W upside down.
Not necessarily true, Plokman. Japanese and Hebrew are written right-to-left, and Japanese is published ‘backwards’ from America’s point of view. But I do agree: it is M, it stands for Magic and is probably an all-in-one volume as opposed to one book from a set.

And here I am hoping for her to properly study the 50-pages section on “molesting” ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
She is going to study the most important question of the all…
WHAT IS A MAN?
A miserable pile of secrets. But enough talk… Have at you!
Or even “What can change the nature of a man?”!
Let’s just expect it’s M for magic…
Rated M for….
<..>
Major Plot Device.
If you look at the image, it’s a “W”. Unless that is the back of the book.

The common word we have been using is Noxxian
Noxxian works for me. Then again I call Friza’s race from DBZ Fridgian because of their cold based names. Thanks for the help.

Go on, take it! Do it, do it, do it! Peer pressure, peer pressure!!
Does it come in Books on Tape tho?

M for “Makers” perhaps?
An offer you can’t refuse.
Hey look! A deal from a devil.
DON”T TAKE IT!

She reeks of innocence in that last panel. Well done.
By the way, looks like Shadow has a nice room. Will Tim get a chance to visit?
Eventually, I’m sure. Someday. Somehow.

What is that face Shadow is making in the last panel.
Exasperation. It goes with the ‘What is going on?!’ line of dialogue.
That tail grab is also a sign of nervousness!

Don’t do it Shadow! Your a good girl!

Has to be M. Flip it upside-down then the binding would be in the wrong place. No Wombo here I’m afraid.

There are multiple encyclodias, but they are all copies of the same book. For the most part.
But there isn’t a LOT of copies. Only a handful exist.
