I don’t think it matters. The way Tim talked about it included the implication that his mom has a number of Halloween costumes. So regardless of what that particular “costume” looks like, or actually is, she should be able to easily pick one of the others (and we readers suspect she might have good reason to do exactly that, heh).

Her monster form was also my first reaction, given the appearance of Lady Blackheart…
I have two theories on this. She might have loaned the golden lion suit to Shadow and didn’t think Tim would remember it. The sweat drop in the last panel is that she’s worried that Tim might wonder why Shadow is wearing his Mom’s old costume. The second possibility is that it was a sexy costume. We shall see.
Doubt option one as she offerd shadow high heels for the leggins, and as for number two I think she used her other form with the belief that tim would be too young to remember (no necesarily on Halloween either)

I’m also very interested in seeing just what costume Shady ends up in.
After all, the hem of her normal short dress is lifted by her caudal appendage (use a dictionary) and we already know (Episode 40) that she’s innocent of underwear. Now, that may be OK in the safety and privacy of Tim’s bedroom (wha…! really?) but flashing the neighbourhood is going to lead to undue attention.
So, I was thinking that constraining and confining the tail may be uncomfortable for a whole evening so a costume which caters for its free movement might be an answer. There are bodysuits (latex, vinyl and leather) where the front zipper doesn’t end at the pubic arch but continues down, under and behind. Leaving the final zip partly undone would allow the movement of her tail and it could be incorporated as a costume feature. A “devil” costume would also reduce the need for disguising her ears, eyes and teeth (FANGS!!) which most 12-year old females do not nomally show.
Red vinyl bodysuit, a trident and a pointy smile?

Of course, Lady Blackheart (Tim’s Mum-yes, I’m convinced) already has the magickal transformation spell (or other technique) to switch between human and Nox form and she’s going to show Shadow “how to” at some stage if she’s going to encourage the relationship.
Shady may be too young to do the spell herself so it could be one of the mystery items in that green bag.
In any case if the humaniform spell is used then ANY costume is possible, Disney Princess, ballerina fairy, ravening cookie-munching dinosaur- depends how far Shadow is prepared to change.
Since Rachel/Lady Blackheart (I am long past any doubt) passed herself off as a ‘Golden lion’, why not Shadow as a catgirl ? xD
Btw, there have been cumulative hints for a long time, and this is the one thing that Brandon never denied why he denied other things (which was when my last doubt dropped).
I suspect that he is laughing in his corner and enjoying adding more hint, less and less subtle every time 😉
Given the evolution of the situation, I suspect that we are getting close to her getting ‘out of the closet’ with them both, in spite of what ‘Lady Blackheart’ told Shadow in the previous page (‘someday’, ‘when it is time’, both implying not soon).
Personally, I suspect it takes time to learn the magic from the book, even for a Noxian.
But when Shawdow find this spell in the book, she will add 2 and 2, if it has not happened before that.

I see a SNES and Animaniacs on TV, so since that has to be a rerun (the screencap is from Dezanitized, which aired September 13th, 1993), so that would put the timeline at Halloween 1994 or later. Therefore, since adult Tim is 18 (or was it 21?), and he should be 12 at this point, then it’d be the year 2000 or so when they are adults.

It’s not that hard in this case, the Warners are iconic, and the white, shapley skirt can only be Hello Nurse. The rest is just checking the HN episodes, and TV cartoons rarely made it to VHS, as they were often heavily syndicated instead.

On a side note is just me or does the sheer amount of hints towards Ruth=Blackheart seem like it could be a case of misdirection? There’s been so many that it seems like a bit of a “HEY PAY ATTENTION TO THIS” type distraction.
