So I guess this means monsters don’t normally kiss or is Nightmare somewhat sheltered? Now I’m curious, how much does he know about the humsn world?
Monsters actually touch tails to kiss, because the tips of their tails are more sensitive. We haven’t seen this guy go exploring in the human world, but he knows enough about human culture to know about kissing.
Perhaps the overall situation is that if Nox folk think the only things humans are good for is scaring, then anything humans like is something Nox folk should frown upon (or worse). Therefore knowledge of kissing could be fairly widespread, but socially unacceptable for Nox. Youngsters like Shadow might simply not know about it if it is not done or talked-about. Eventually, though, every youngster learns both the existence and taboo of kissing.
And of course where there is a taboo, there are rebellious ones who defy the taboo!
It’s entirely possible that monsters do kiss and Nightmare doesn’t feel like they’ve been together long enough (or just that she’s angry right now). Humans have a lot of ways to show affection, both more and less intimate than kissing, and I don’t see why monsters should be very different.
They don’t, I can confirm there is something more than meets the eye going on here.
Their tails are intertwined, so I don’t think she’s that against it.
Terminus, the manipulative bastard he probably is, knows what he’s doing though. Endures some pain, to consolidate his hold over her.

About ages, I know you retconed the ages for the characters to be older when they first meet – from 9 to 12, so the preteen romance scenes wouldn’t be, uh, inapropiate. Just saying, wouldn’t a simple timeskip right before the Halloween storyline have been better?
In the third panel, it looks like Nightmare has grown some bust. But maybe it is just some rags stuffed into her blouse….

Nah, it’s a common enough saying. Oh, and there’s the whole ‘he’s a part of the Brotherhood, therefore everybody is a brother’ thing, much like all the members of Moonlight’s Sisterhood guild are ‘sisters’.
I think she liked it but just won’t admit it.
I think it’s more complex than that. She was pursuing a romantic relationship with him but had very recently gotten the impression that he was just using her. So she did want to kiss him eventually, but not just now because she’s angry with him. What he did was kind of manipulative, so he’s right that he deserved the slap, but I’m not completely sure whether he’s just using her to open this door, or if he’s actually interested in her and her ability to help open the door is a bonus. If he’s just using her, he’s being a colossal jerk right now. If he’s actually interested, then he’s being a little reckless but not actually mean.
We’ll see how it goes. 😉
