Another guess: Ruth could be Tim’s stepmother. If Tim was born of a previous marriage, and young enough when Tim’s dad remarried, then it would be quite natural for him to consider his stepmom to simply be “mom”.

Time in the Dungeons, Banishment and Death sentences, depending on the severity of the crime. There is not much crime.
Does Nox have religion like the human world does?
No; they know exactly where they came from, and while they do not exactly worship, they do take their progenitors name in vain often enough, though. Hehe!
