Tomokatu said that relationships between humans and Noxians (and the two species just interacting with each other) are a criminal offence in Nox. Shadow and Midnight have been breaking that law for the past seven years. And things have just gotten worse. Nightmare and Terminus now know what Shadow and Midnight have been up to, and Moonlight has Shadow dressed in a seductive outfit. To me and a lot of the readers, this doesn’t seem like just a ceremony to make Lord Mortis the new High-Father. This seems to us like an engagement party for Shadow and Lord Mortis, and I think this is supported by Brandon saying on page 226 he is dreading having to do the next scene. Why Moonlight chose Shadow to be the lover of Lord Mortis, I have no idea (unless it’s because Eclipse pierced her ears). If I had to take a guess, I think it is because she’s still a virgin. Even if this isn’t the reason, I still don’t want Lord Mortis (or anyone besides Tim) to take Shadow’s virginity. Tim, her true love, should be the one to do it! That is why for the past week, I’ve been fantasizing about Shadow, Midnight and Eclipse having to flee and leave Nox for good either because Moonlight and Lord Mortis find out about Shadow and Midnight’s interactions with humans and they want to avoid being punished or because they don’t want them to find out what they’ve been doing for the past seven years because if they do, they might get punished. I know Eclipse has never interacted with humans before (as far as we know), but I doubt Midnight wants to leave behind someone she just fell in love with.
I never said TV was involved. I thought this gathering was something Lord Mortis had to do to become the new High-Father. If that is the case, a more pressing question is why did Moonlight dress Shadow up in a seductive outfit? Shadow said she met Lord Mortis before, and Moonlight replied by saying this was a special occasion. Could it be that whenever someone becomes the new High-Father, he must have a mate for life? If so, I am curious why Moonlight is offering Shadow and not herself to be the mate of Lord Mortis. Moonlight and Lord Mortis did have sex in the past, after all.
You may argue that point in frony of the Tribunal of Nox, provided that you’re granted equivalent status as a Noxian Advocate, but prejudice runs deep and you may not succeed.
Of course, as a human (you ARE human are you not?) if your argument is not upheld, then you’d automatically be subjected to the penalties you’re trying to have overturned, as a human trespasser in Nox territory..
Are you sure you want to try?
Tim’s mother (Ruth) is going to appear in a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder in her human form. (great surprise and consternation all around).
She will make a speech about Shadow’s right to choose (Brandon will have to write that for her) and just as certain Noxian officials start to become upset and agitate the crowd to violence, Ruth will drop her human disguise and appear as the missing and exiled Lady Blackheart (who is really the last scion of a vanished Noxian royal family).
She will extend royal patronage to Shadow, make Midnight a Dame of Nox as Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Shadow, banish Terminus and Nightmare to lifetime imprisonment on the treadmills that generate Nox’s bio-electric power.
I don’t know what Brandon has in mind for after, but there’s probably a party at which Tim and Shadow get shit-faced on booze and find a pile of cushions in a quiet room to explore a bit.

I looked again at the first encounters with Lord Mortis (#70, #102). He gives an overall impression of a smart guy and is suspicious about Shadow.
Also, #102 hints that he leans toward pulling their cozy-post-apoc sleepy kingdom somewhere, but is not as naive about it as Terminus (seeing how both the old High Father and Moonie approved him) and seeks high-ups who want to cooperate.
This may easily turn… not the way Moonie wanted it to turn. Of course, we don’t know enough of Now beyond the kiddie guilds to tell what possibilities are even there.
Yes, but at this point would be still non-sequitur-y, in that there are no cross-purposes revealed yet. Unless he has a plan for Shadow, and rather than any attempt to recruit or play games, or at least try to find out exactly what’s up as a low-stakes (for him) challenge, it’s simply “banish the cheating cheater”.
This would make sense. But also a waste of resources, and if he has plans to achieve something, wouldn’t he be disinclined to do that? Also, would obviously upset Moonie, and they hit it off already.
It could make sense to rope Shadow into his plans via plain blackmail, but that won’t be done in public. And now that Mortis is in charge, he probably has less crude options, which won’t leave him with a resentful underling? Messing with her is easy, but doesn’t seem to be in his interests, while recruiting a sneaky favorite of Moonie on non-antagonistic terms could add to his “unofficial” support one way or another. Mortis did run some “refreshing” ideas by Moonie, so either he wanted support or really wanted to impress her.
Either way, he got more important things on his plate right now. So my bet is on “nothing important yet, but Mortis is reminded about Shadow’s existence again”.
Of course, since Moonie has called Nightmare forward with Shadow (both the top scorers in the League of Fear Harvesters) Lord Mortis may:
-a) Recruit Nightmare as one of his sneaky agents
-b) Claim Nightmare as his new consort, thereby irritating Terminus or
-c) Draft Nightnare as the new Trainer of Tadpoles to build his army of Ninja Frogs.
Nightmare is unusual only in being an assistant to Terminus. So she already can navigate a library at Novice level rater than Dabbler. Useful, but is it rare? Beyond this, she’s just another prospective First Reaver, if somewhat insecure. She could be roped into something along with Terminus, however.
Shadow is “cheating”, which led her to develop more interesting skills and tricks (including magical disguises), at least above-average understanding of humans, and unusual mentality. That is, she got experience in strange shenanigans.
But other than that — yeah, at this point it’s impossible to tell where all this may turn.
Je ne serais pas surpris que la prochaine page parle des parents de Tim et que l’on ne voit Shadow et la suite de cette partie que dans plusieurs mois.
Sorry I wrote in French. The last sentence said: I wouldn’t be surprised if the next page will deal with Tim’s parents and if we will not see Shadow and the continuation of the part before a few months.
The main benefit of multiple plot lines: any of them can be left hanging for a while. =)
But then, Tim’s line goes nowhere without outside interference. Maybe something else entirely?
People forget entire characters sometimes! I’ve had to explain who Marcy and Anna are at least 3-4 times each to different people. Some people thought they were the same person, others that Marcy and Ruth were the same person… like… I don’t even know sometimes.
Hey, Brandon. I read your tweet on Twitter and I apologize for thinking that Shadow and Lord Mortis were supposed to be lovers and that an arranged marriage was in the works. I was just stating my opinion on what I thought was happening. And to be fair, stuff that happened in the comic led us to think an arranged marriage was happening. These include Lady Moonlight dressing Shadow up in that outfit for the meeting of the new High-Father, saying that this was a special occasion, Lord Mortis making glances at Shadow in the past, and in the original story on [REDACTED], Shadow was supposed to [REDACTED] with [REDACTED] to save [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] means they are supposed to [REDACTED], and Terminus and Lord Mortis have [REDACTED] in the comic. Anyways, I just hope you can forgive me and the rest of the fans of the comic.
Mostly that tweet was just a joke anyway, it’s just funny that almost every one jumped to that conclusion when Moonlight herself is sleeping with Lord Mortis! Heh. That would be awkward.
Sorry about putting everything that now says REDACTED in my comment. I gotta say, I’m impressed certain words can be blocked out like that. But I didn’t mean to spoil anything, and if I’m being honest, I haven’t read the original story. I only caught a few glimpses of it. Besides, I prefer the comic over the original story. And I have no idea what’s actually going to happen in the comic.
Well, I can edit everyone’s comments. I don’t like doing it, but I DO have the ability.
It’s fine, things will certainly play out differently (generally speaking) but some stuff may still be upcoming, so I tend to censor potential spoilers.
thank goodness …. I already had my concerns about what would happen on the next page … but did he run away to survive? …. as a good successor he must have the leadership of nox as the next great father and not Terminus … … although because to Mexico …. that means that the aegris is capable of taking you not only from world to world … but also taking you to different parts of the world as a terrestrial portal (although he will be more or less well in new mexico … as long as you have a human form in case of emergencies and a way to earn a living) And so if then he will be there then will we see Tim or Shadow go to New Mexico to look for him?

This seems to be a ceremony to make sure everyone in the area knows who the new High-Father is. They don’t have TV, you see.
I never said TV was involved. I thought this gathering was something Lord Mortis had to do to become the new High-Father. This is just a meeting to reveal the news of what has happened… the official ceremony happens later!
In this chapter or the next?
Tim is half noxian so technically it’s only whatshisname breaking that law, Shadow is not.
You may argue that point in frony of the Tribunal of Nox, provided that you’re granted equivalent status as a Noxian Advocate, but prejudice runs deep and you may not succeed.

Both Shadow and Ruth could make that argument in Nox, assuming Ruth wasn’t banished.
So, they will have no advocates to defend themselves?
Regarding my previous comment, nobody tell me if my theories are right or what’s going to happen. I want to be surprised.
But I’m all for anyone telling me what they think is going to happen next.

Darn! You guessed the ending of the story! I was hoping to trick all of you and end the story in this chapter, but damn it! *chews knuckle*
Now I have to re-write everything from this point forward… that’ll be at least another 4 chapters to fix it!
Who guessed the ending of the story? TBeholder or Tomokatu?
Nobody, I was just joking. 😅

Wouldn’t it be hilarious if Lord Mortis turned out to be the bad guy the whole time and Terminus was just a red herring?
I have considered that to be a possibility. Don’t tell me if I’m right or not. I want to be surprised.
Yes, but at this point would be still non-sequitur-y, in that there are no cross-purposes revealed yet. Nope, we’re sticking around for a while yet! We may not even see Tim’s parents again until chapter 5!
Question , how will Tim feel after learning the truth about who his mother or what he is and also how Shadow promised to never keep secrets from him?
I’m sure that will be the least of his worries at the time.
Dumb question but will we get a new “incentive” picture anytime soon? As in the one “reward” for voting for this comic?
I don’t even look at that website anymore. Sooo…….. nope.
Cool~ Thanks~
I wonder if all the folks who think an arranged marriage is in the works have forgotten that Moonlight and Mortis are sleeping with each other…
To be fair, I almost did. It was one-page event.
I never forgot! And I was one of the people who thought an arranged marriage was happening!
People forget entire characters sometimes! I’ve had to explain who Marcy and Anna are at least 3-4 times each to different people. Some people thought they were the same person, others that Marcy and Ruth were the same person… like… I don’t even know sometimes.
One guy actually forgot who TERMINUS was once!
Yes, sometimes SOME people forget!
That’s because they don’t eat enough frogs.
I know, right?
Tastes like chicken!
“This is your brain on cliché” thing happens. 😉

It is still a special occasion, just very different from what everybody is thinking… and uh… SPOILERS, geez. 😅
Mostly that tweet was just a joke anyway, it’s just funny that almost every one jumped to that conclusion when Moonlight herself is sleeping with Lord Mortis! Heh. That would be awkward.

Question ,what is the current status of Lord Mortis? He is still alive.
Uh, he probably is the successor of deceased High Father, and at the door right now either way?
Currently living in Albuquerque New Mexico under an assumed name. Daryl Pearson, I think. Yeah.
thank goodness ….
You should probably think about doing a new page every Sunday and Monday. Plus, I always have to wait every day for a new page to come.
Every Sunday AND Monday, oh, I’ll keep that in mind.
🤪
Mmmm! Why Nightmare wearing underpants?
They aren’t underwear, they have semi-transparent leggings, thus the different coloured legs.
