Just found this series and my initial hopes that this would be a complete story on seeing it stated 10 years ago have been dashed. That said great story keep it up I’ll be following it going forward from now.

A truthful observation can often offend SOMEBODY.
That’s because reality isn’t actually gendered.
It’s not even that she’s a girl. It’s that she’s hated Tim since day 1 and always had a lady boner for Shadow, so jealousy probably plays a role.
I DO recall Midnight’s epithet “dog-boy” for Tim.
That indicates a cetain (personal) prejudice.
I was about to say pretty much the same thing you just did. Midnight’s had a girl crush on Shadow and despite the obvious fact Shadow didn’t swing that way and liked Tim she took her jealously out on Tim. I’ve never really liked Midnight. She reminds me of the annoying Yuri character in Manga romcoms who’s sole purpose seems to be to cock block the MC from getting with the FMC.
Glad to know we see eye to eye on this. Was never a fan of her or her type in stories like this either. They’re just annoying.
The characters may have their uses. But then, do you see many plots that are not stupid in… romcoms with herbarium cast? It’s to be expected.
(herbarium cast is like an ark, except requires only one specimen of every critter on the list, and not necessarily living)
