I’m starting to wonder how these lady monsters are supposed to be scary when they’re so darn adorable.
Even the bathing adult lady monsters many pages back weren’t really scary. Just attractive and brightly colored.
It’s more of the initial ‘BOO!’ factor, and they usually tend to hide in shadows and act creepy… but they just kinda drop that pretext with Tim at this point.
Doesn’t stop Shadow from trying, right? 😉

Well, at least it happened earlier in the week than it’s been.
I don’t imagine that Pixar’s “Monster’s Inc” will be one of the movies they watch. I wonder what Shadow would think of that one?
She’ll probably go all MST3K on it, pointing out how monsters don’t look like that at all, that the fear-tech isn’t all that advanced, and generally end up rolling on the floor laughing at how the artists and writers have never seen a monster in their lives, possibly rolling into the under-bed portal with Tim . . . .

I’m not sure that movie would even exist yet during Tim’s childhood.
To be fair, we don’t know what year this is. The fact that Tim has a “Nightmare On Elm Street Dream Warriors” poster suggests that this is after 1987, and the fact that Tim’s family still has a VCR suggests that this is probably the 90s. “Monster’s Inc” came out in 2001, so if this scene took place in the ’90s, then it wouldn’t have come out. IF this is in the ’90s, the framing story (which shows a more mature & romantic Tim and Shadow) would have taken place in the 1998-2008 time frame.
It probably is taking place in the 90’s. Keep in mind that Tim says it’s the old VCR, though… I mean… I still have one kicking around here someplace.

She’s supposed to be giving it a hard yank on the other side of the portal for calling Tim names, but it’s easy to imagine several other options.
I like how Shadow is wearing the cross between an innocent look and an evil grin in the last panel.

In only a few weeks Midnight has gone from BFF to annoying interruption. I wonder if Shadow is aware of the change in taste of company?
They’re still BFF’s, Shadow just doesn’t like her taking cheap shots at her new buddy!
I think that Shadow’s visits and Tim’s studies won’t necessarily conflict with each other. He could use study time as a pretext to close his room for Shadow to visit and since they’re teaching each other about their worlds, he would review what he learned during the day, along with any other activities he/she plans.
