Alright, bear with me here. Tim loves horror movies, he was apparently raised on Wes Craven, and probably other masters of horror. With Lady Blackheart being Tim’s mother, she is trying to protect her family from other Monsters Under the Bed. They feed on fear, or collect it or whatever. If Tim isn’t afraid of them, then theoretically they would quit coming back to her son. The one thing she couldn’t count on was Shadow falling for Tim. Now that she knows Shadow and Tim are friends, and might one day become more, I think she is trying to get Shadow to stay with Tim, but not at the cost of her life as a monster. Because Blackheart can’t go back home, while she might love her husband and her son, she sacrificed everything she knew and loved, including her sister, for them.
I think she is trying to encourage Shadow to keep up her friendship and relationship with Tim, but to do it more carefully and ‘correctly’ than she did, because she doesn’t want Shadow to have to go through the pain and heartbreak that she did.

I’m pretty sure a lot of people have been thinking it since Brandon made those comments about assuming Tim’s parents didn’t see Shadow.

I knew she was Tim’s mother
Hmmm, if she IS Tim’s mother, why was she punishing him for his socks disappearing? Wouldn’t she know that another monster was responsible?
And maybe this was revealed and I just don’t remember it, but what do the (for want of a better word) monsters call themselves? Is there a name for their race? Noxians, perhaps?
I was just thinking along those lines, and assuming she was aware of Shadow’s presence, my assumption is that she set Tim up to meet Shadow.
I don’t think so. I think that she genuinely thought that he was throwing them away or something. However, she may have caught a glance at the photo and then listened at the door one night, etc. They haven’t exactly been discreet. The name Shadow isn’t a human one and she just needs to hear the word “Nox” or “Mother Moonlight” to realise what’s going on.
She seems to be aware of thing, I assume through some magical means, and she would definitely want to know when her home was visited by another monster. And since Shadow apparently visited Tim multiple times but never bothered to scare him, that would definitely attract her interest.
Trust me, human females DO have a 6th sense where stashes of their favorite snacks are concerned.
But ya, assuming Ruth is Blackheart, she could have either caught a glimpse of the photo when Tim burst in on her and the captain, or overheard him say monster when she tossed him out of the room just afterward.
Or, considering Shadows nose led her to Tims socks, Ruth may have picked up the scent of monster in his bedroom. Of course by this point with the regular visits, even a 100% human mother would have overheard talking, gotten curious about him staying up all night, or caught some trace of her in his room. Soap or perfume that aint his? Evidence of him doing anything with another person? The high rate he goes through cookies? Claw marks on anything? Ruth may be blonde but thats stretching things.
My theory was that she knew about Shadow before Tim did (which is what I was referring to when I said Shadow’s multiple visits with no sign that she was trying to scare Tim would attract her interest quickly) and brought the socks to his attention in the hopes that something like this would happen.
Xiado is a Chinese name, and pronounced “shadow”. “I’d like to meet this friend who sneaks in your window every night. She’s Chinese, right?”
also the Ageis ,, it opens portals,, so it might have a way of detecting other portals… just a guess..

You’re wrong the monsters normally don’t take things like socks with them only shadow does we see that she hangs them on her wall and saying to herself that she is a weirdo.

Oh certainly, I tend to keep it generally light, but once in awhile expect things to get deep and/or intense.
Isn´t that what relationships are about? Depth? Trust?

Sooooo if you go alllll the way back to page 7, you see Tim’s dad in the same position as the shadow man in this frame, with suspiciously similar hair, as well as both of them seeming very… surprised that Tim was going to prove that something was stealing his socks.
if thats the book I think it is … you have changed the story more than I thought. Maybe 60% or so?

Well I feel Vindecated in my Belief in Black heart being Tims mother. To say the least Tim doesn’t have to be her biological son he really doesn’t we have no time line. So Tims dad could have been raising him alone and his blood mother could be dead or gone. Ignoring that idea we have no clue how Noxian DNA and human would mix. That being said if he is half Noxian who knows he could devolope traits later. If fact for all we know he has hidden traits that are at work already. I mean who know what she was sniffing in his…… socks ug.
You know, I just realize after looking back at the comments that I asked Brandon the exact same question you did. Of course after looking back at pictures of both Ruth and Lady Blackheart I see they both have beauty marks in the exact same spot, but like I said time will tell whether our theories are correct or not.
I believe Brandon once said that Noxians are an offshoot of humans. I think.
While we don’t have enough information to prove that Lady BlackHeart is Tim’s mother if she really is does that mean that Tim would have an alternate form or abilities that even he doesn’t know about? But for all we know that picture in the forth panel could be your way of trolling us. If so, well played good sir! Also could you give some cheesecake of Lady MoonLight and Lady BlackHeart? I doubt it. If Lady Blackheart is Ruth, she must have taken human form when she had Tim, so if that’s the case, wouldn’t she have had human DNA at that time, not monster DNA?
