Not to be ‘that guy’ but I have to offer up another theory…that Blackheart actually isn’t Tim’s mother, but instead she was interested in his father, much as our heroine is with Tim. However, she chose ‘power’ and abandoned him, leading to the father ending up with the mother, and her alone at the top.
the problem with that theory is where it says she went back to the only thing that mattered and it shows her with what looks like to be tims dad my guess is she got knocked up with tim and that how her whole scandal got found out
I disagree with one thing in that theory.
Tim and Shadow are roughly the same age.
The missing mother has been gone long enough that everyone in Shadows age group believes her to be a myth.
So if Ruth is Blackheart, I’m thinking Tim was conceived after she left Nox. Which means she left for another reason. From her conversation with Moonie, my guess is it concerns an old book. Possibly even the same one Shadow now holds?
One thing that was never really spelled out is exactly WHAT the missing mother did that was so wrong? We know she did something, and is now missing. Thats it. For a tale that seems commonly known amongst the sisterhood, we havent heard much of it!
it’s the common knowledge is common to the characters, so why would they talk about it. it’s like someone explaining the internet or what a cell phone is in modern day. Same concept, we most likely won’t hear about it in comic until shadow tells tim the whole story.
well we know that moonie’s first words were to inquire if blackheart was gonna “corrupt” the mind of a child(which can be assumed to mean shadow) perhaps she had the same curiosity shadow has with humans, and approached Tim’s dad much like shadow did tim? their friends found out midnight was accommodating to shadow, but perhaps moonie saw it as corruption of blackheart’s mind, an aberration she needed to expel to keep her dearest friend?
to be specific her first words when they(blackheart and moonie) saw each other again, not her actual first words.
I think it’s pretty obvious that lady Blackheart is Shadow’s mother and those who say she is Tim’s mother want creepy incest.
I really don’t know where the incest angle enters into things at all. Even if Blackheart WAS Tim’s mom, that still doesn’t make Tim and Shadow related at all. I’ve said multiple times that Tim and Shadow are not related. They both have two completely different sets of parents, and the parents are not related to each other either.
Either that or she found a semi permanent way to stay in a human form, and gave up on returning to stay with, “the only thing that ever mattered”, Tim’s father, her status as a High Mother explaining her intuition on the night of the “pantry incident.” All in all, I wouldn’t blame her, love and lust are just as sweet as cookies… (Also it might explain the spike on the “Scare Meter”, Tim being half monster, which could make this “thing” work out after all)
If you’re right about Lady Blackheart finding a semi-permanent way of appearing human, wouldn’t it be reasonable to connect that ability to an extremely rare book of magic available only to High Mothers? Just like the one Blackheart has just given to Shadow…

Ever heard the term “jossed”? I suspect we’re getting jossed here, with a ton of hints that’ll be shown to be nothing more than a red herring.
To follow up on this thought, we’re essentially not getting “hints” that Blackheart is Ruth, we’re getting anvils toward the idea. It’s too frickin’ obvious, which has me wondering if Brandon’s intentionally giving us false hints. I’m suspecting something different from what we’ve been shown so far (f’rex, that could be Tim’s paternal uncle, not his dad) because right now the way too obvious explanation has in my experience never turned out to be true.
Or maybe I’m giving Brandon too much credit as a writer and artist and Ruth Newton really is Lady Blackheart.
He does have a collection of short stories that this seems to be fleshing out to a greater detail. Read those.

Well this a theory so move along if you dont want to hear. To logically look at the memories is that Landyblack heart did dated Tim’s dad at one point but LOST to Tim’s mom … Logically she would have done everything in her power to be with him but got caught and banish from the Nox society. Thus seeing Shadow as her younger years, Lady Blackheart is making sure her dream come true to dating Tim.
Whoever the guy is…I hope we’ll be learning more about him sometime soon…

have miss anything..cause i been reading the series? i don’t know if the human is tim? to me it looks like she was in her real form too? but she not witht this human anymore? it seem she went to this human after she quiit being a high mother?? so im confuse.. am i understanding it different?? anyway who know if it stim father. i doont think so.. i think just sadly the human who she was with pass away or something else. also she understand how shadow getting these powers because it dodnt need to be fear. it what she did too i guess. now is she trying to stop or help her.. sadly she banking on what happen to her. will happen to shadow too.. i dunno
then we find out tims mother runs a haunted house franthise. and thats how she gets all the power to stay in human form

Who knows, maybe it’s a ‘Monsters Inc’ and she can get her power from other sources.
Maybe that’s why their sex life is so active… it’s a nice, fun ‘substitute’ for fear.
The spike in the scare meter could be just that love is more powerful than scaring people. Kind of like how making kids laugh is more efficient than scaring them in monsters inc.

Oh my god! She’s Tim’s mom! She obviously has the power to transform or change her appearance somehow!
Tims dad had an ongoing affair with Lady Blackheart while he was dating Ruth. Ruth found out and kicked Lady Blackheart back under the bed and told her that if she ever showed up again, she would get worse. Then she married Tims dad, had a child and the rest is history.
