Everybody is saying “he’s her father,” but that’s not necessarily 100% required for that much of a reaction.
He was introduced to Shadow as one that was raised directly by Lady Moonlight. The current leader of the Sisterhood? She’s kind of important, and he is going to be working closely with her a lot. Lord Mortis doesn’t need that working relationship poisoned because one of his underlings decided to mess around with his counterpart’s adopted daughter.
Besides, that might also ruin his chances of hooking up with Lady Moonlight herself.
Just when you think Terminus can’t get any sleazier, he jokes about being a borderline pedophile. Geez. Mortis is going to need to wash his hands now that’s he’s touched the bastard.
And Termite earns that nickname even more. First he’s corrupting an impressionable teen girl who is clearly crushing on him, now he accuses his boss of being a pedophile, with implications of possibly being one himself.
And for all his observational skills, Termite hasn’t noticed the striking similarities between Mortis’s and Shadow’s tails! (And Mortis also appears to be of a similar skin tone to Shadow, strengthening the familial bond.) Even if Mortis isn’t Shadow’s father, they’re related (and Mortis’s reaction is pure “don’t mess with my family!” reaction), and Mortis knows it.
(I’m personally of the “he’s her father” camp, but we have to wonder who her mother was, and whether Mortis knew the mother was pregnant when she disappeared.)
Or uncle, or perhaps he quite simply really really really really really detests what he just heard. Any way, Shadow has one more protector than she knows about.
everyone saying Mortis is Shadow’s father. But he asked Shadow if the guy she was crushin over was one of his sons. Now you could argue that he was trying to get information to prevent incest. But I think the true answer is… Mortis is Tim’s father. too obvious. has to be the answer. totes.
Not one of his sons, but one of “his”. As Mortis is the second in command and designated heir to the leadership of the male version of the guild Moonlight heads, I’m of the opinion that the “one of mine?” bit was “one of my guild’s kids?”, not “one of my biological sons”. It seems more logical.
he still looks an awful lot like Tim’s dad (seriously compare the two of them, its uncanny). Just as lady blackheart appears to be his mom. You’re probably right but aren’t twists better if people actually don’t see them coming? It’d be great if this went completely off the wall in a way no one was expecting.
It seems I cannot resist making a fool of myself. Here are some wild-eyed speculations, mostly based on the assumption that Tim’s mom is Lady Blackheart, likely originally known as “Ruthless” (in #91 Lady Moonlight starts to call Lady Blackheart something that begins with “R”, and in #42 Tim’s mom says that “Ruthie” isn’t her name, but “Ruthless” appears to meet her demand that her name be stated).
First, she knows about socks, and her son is half-Nox. Perhaps there is a Noxian cultural “no-no”, there, which explains her outburst early in the story. Lucky for Tim, he was actually innocent. But we still wonder about the inhabitants of Nox, and socks. I wonder what would happen it Tim bought some pairs of socks specifically to give to Shadow….
Second, I’ve been wondering why the author apparently considers the Tim/Shadow story to be more interesting than the Tom/Ruthless story. I’m tentatively concluding that perhaps Tom doesn’t know she is a Noxian, and that she learned to change her form before she met Tom (and after she began learning top-ranking fearsomeness directly from humans).
Third, if Tim is half-Nox, then perhaps at some point in the story he will learn how to change to some sort of Nox form, and directly interact with full-bred Noxians. It might be necessary for him to learn some unarmed combat skills, in order to survive that, but that could certainly lead to interesting situations! (On another hand, since Shadow didn’t know about television and refrigerators, it is possible that human technology includes quite a few things that could be surprisingly effective weapons against Noxians. Pepper spray, for example. Maybe an air horn–those large ears might be vulnerable. And don’t forget the good old combination of hair-spray plus cigarette lighter.)
Fourth, when Halloween arrives, perhaps Shadow can explore Earth in her normal form, and no one will be the wiser. #36 states that Tim’s 9th birthday is in October, and #105 and other recent comics are “set” in the evening of Tim’s 9th birthday. Halloween, in the story-line, is maybe only a modest number of comics away.
Interesting observasions I might put out that if tim is half nox shadow may infact be sniffing his sock for his personal aroma. She rarely meets males and Tim as a half nox might be giving off a musk that gives her a unknown stimulation. On the flip side none of the Nox were sox especialy in a box or with rocks. Sorry my rhyming got carryed away there.
There is a place you can find spoilers… the story before us was originally a written one… I will not tell you where to find it… only that it exists… Brandon, with your permission, I’d like to give one detail about Shadow that would get people’s attention and I want you to confirm it.
Having read that story myself, I can say this comic has already veered “off script” several times. Artistic license and all that. Some things are similar but even if the story is taken as a rough guideline to current chapters and characters, later ones might be a complete rewrite. It happens. So if you post details from that, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment or throwing around what are now red herrings.
When it comes to good writing you can write about whats on the other side of the line with out crossing it. I don’t know this other story but Brandon makes me want to read it.
I’m sure others see but I suspected it when he first arrive the lord may be shadows father. His questions seemed much like an astranged father blunt and imbarassing. They may keep the sexs seperate but it would be logical that they ally with with a strong clan of the opposite sex. Even her ladyship was seemingly look for some action.
Well, Mortis’ interest in Shadow is DEFINITELY not romantic.
Though he may not be her father (quite possible), she is somehow important to him.
I get the feeling of an uncle from him. Don’t know why but that’s was my gut says.
Well that’s look some family protection feeling there.

While that would explain him shutting him down, it doesn’t explain his intense angry and resorting to threat of violence almost instantly.
That rockhead just outright implied Mortis is a childmolester as well. :\
I am surprised the kid lived.
Just when you think Terminus can’t get any sleazier, he jokes about being a borderline pedophile. Geez. Mortis is going to need to wash his hands now that’s he’s touched the bastard.
Yep. He’s a dirt bag.

Comment deleted. (Just joking).
I love the subtle meme you threw in there. Very dank.
The first page came out on this day. Good luck in the future. 🙂
(Sorry my bad english).
I’m thinking this is what is called paternal care and concern.
Or uncle, or perhaps he quite simply really really really really really detests what he just heard. Any way, Shadow has one more protector than she knows about.
I hope Shadow and Midnight will return to the human world to visit Tim.
Of course they will, wouldn’t be much of a story otherwise!

i agree with that, since there’s a lot of Guildmasters and Vice-Guildmasters that look at the ones under them as their childredn

I can hardly wait!

Wait and see what happens the next time Shadow and Midnight visit Tim in the human world.
I’m thinking cake.

I have no idea what you’re about to say, so I’m gonna have to decline.

It’s less that it’s veered ‘off script’ and more that it’s been expanded upon, but ultimately things fall back in line eventually.
When it comes to good writing you can write about whats on the other side of the line with out crossing it. I don’t know this other story but Brandon makes me want to read it.
You’ve proved the existence of the written story, and that is enough for me.
Hi, guys! I wanna present you a new blog of funny webcomics: http://welcometonightmareville.blogspot.it/
Enjoy!
Such Spam with out the artists premission is in poor taste my friend.
